Chapter 111: Can’t I Be A Nice Girl?
Kylie walked outside her home towards the car, where Faith still sat inside. Although Kylie looked normal, Faith could still read something was wrong from the way she was fidgeting.
“So what did President Laurence have to say?”
“What could he possibly say?” Kylie opened a bottle of water and sneered, “Khloe is the apple of his eyes. Even though thousands of people are slamming her, she is still his baby daughter while I’m a damn thumbtack under his sole. It hurts if he steps on it, but he can do nothing about it.”
“How could your own father treat you so differently? You’re his biological daughter. He’s so fucking evil!” Faith hit the driving wheel with anger and then comforted Kylie, “Kylie, don’t be sad. The second you have succeeded is the moment when he gets a slap on his face.”NôvelDrama.Org © content.
Kylie nodded and looked out the window glumly, “I thought I was over it, but… I’ve thought too highly of myself, after all.” Kylie tried to curb the tears that had filled her eyes.
Laurence was more cold-blooded than the evilest of men. Kylie had found out the hard way. Even some of the dirtiest criminals still loved their families and protected them from death. However, in her case, as long as Khloe was happy, he did not give two shits about Kylie. Even now, the only reason he was contacting her was that Khloe’s career had gone down the drain, and he wanted Kylie to do something about it.
Kylie was still thinking about the unfairness of it all when her phone started to ring.
“Hey, you’re still alive!” William’s voice sounded from the other side when she picked up, “Come to my place. I have something for you.”
A smile came to her face when she heard William’s perky voice.
“My mom sent me some roasted lamb. Come over if you want to pig out!” William continued, “You’ve promised to beat me at an eating contest. I swear, if you ditch me this tome too, I won’t fucking forgive you!”
“Hold your damn horses! I’ll be right there!” Kylie laughed and hung up the phone and asked Faith to drive. William knew that food was the key to Kylie’s heart, so much so that he had decided to order her favorite seafood dish from her favorite restaurant every day of the month back.
“You can drop me off at the next intersection. I’ll ask John to pick me up.” Kylie smiled at Faith. It was not because she did not trust Faith, but she needed to keep William’s location a secret until she asked him if it was okay for Faith to know. Faith nodded without question and stopped the car at the side of the road.
William actually owned three houses in Seattle. Two of them were to confuse reporters (yes, he was that famous and rich), and the one he lived in was not too far away from Toprak Mansion when Ethan and Kylie resided. Of course, William could buy a house near Toprak Mansion because of his Uncle Ethan.
Kylie’s mouth started watering when she walked inside William’s front door. Walking towards the formal dining room, Kylie’s eyes almost popped out at the décor. The center of the table was tastefully littered with mercury glass pieces that beautifully reflected the warmth and glow of the burning candles. The table was set for two, so Kylie sat down gingerly, not wanting to mess up the setting accidentally.
Kylie decided to call Ethan while William was still away, “I won’t be home for dinner tonight.”
“Busy at work?” Ethan asked.
“Nope. William invited me over for dinner, and he said I could not refuse. I’m at his house now.” Kylie replied and could not help but put a piece of bread roll in her mouth. “His house is near Toprak Mansion so I can just walk home after. Don’t worry about me.”
“Good. I’ll be right there.” Ethan said lightly. Kylie was about to grab another piece of bread roll but stopped suddenly when she heard Ethan’s response. “Um…you’re coming?”
“Can’t I?” Ethan asked as a rhetorical question and added, “Do you want to dine with William alone?”
“No…Absolutely not.” Ethan being so reasonable, made Kylie do nothing but agree with her husband.
Kylie pouted and laid the phone on the table when William walked out with her favorite wine in hand, “Who called?”
“Your uncle Ethan. He’s coming over as well,” Kylie replied, meekly knowing William did not really like his uncle.
“What!” William sputtered out, nearly dropping the wine bottle in his hand. He complained, “Kylie, you know you guys are not a real couple. You don’t need to be with him as an actual couple!”
“Hey!” Kylie barked, “Watch your language! We’re simply getting along well. Besides, he just wants to come and eat with us, nothing else. He’s your uncle anyway. You’re supposed to treat him well!” Kylie yelled back.
William sat down heavily and slammed the bottle on the table. “Bullshit! Do you think even though he lives next door, he drops by every now and then? He hasn’t come here once since I bought this house three years ago!”
Kylie sighed and tried to calm down as William did have a valid point.
“Okay, well, we are only dining together after all. What are you so afraid of?” William mumbled to himself, “How could you know the shit he does when he’s drunk…”
William then offered a cigarette to Kylie.
“I’ve quit.” Kylie shook her head, denying the cigarette.
“What?” William looked at her with amazement, “You? Do you quit? The girl who always had a cigarette in her mouth quit smoking? Just like that?”
“Well, why can’t I? Can’t I be a nice girl now? Can’t I…” Kylie spoke up but was cut off by William’s sarcastic remarks.
“Don’t tell me you did this for Uncle!”
While the two were still arguing, the doorbell rang. Kylie rolled her eyes at William, motioning him to open the door. What surprised William when he opened the door wasn’t that Ethan had arrived so early, but he had arrived with his big dog. Pupu seemed to smell Kylie’s scent and rushed inside towards the dining room, jumping on Kylie.
