Chapter 34 They Were Meant to Be
Chapter 34 They Were Meant to Be
Ever since Conrad was taken away, Claudia had been living her life in a daze. She felt as if a piece of
her heart had been cut out.
She was like a walking corpse for three days. Finally, she got a medical certificate from the hospital
confirming her recovery from the allergy. Then, she couldn't help but sigh with relief.
The first thing she wanted to do was to take the diagnosis to Ben and show it to him, but she lingered in
front of the hospital.
She was well aware of how much he hated her.
How hostile he had been to her, and every word he had said had echoed in her mind. She kept
tightening her grip on her handbag.
In the evening, Ben came home for a rare visit, and Claudia made some pudding for him.
She remembered that he had always liked this kind of pudding since he was very young.
Claudia happily knocked on the door with the pudding in her hand. However, after knocking several
times, no one responded in the study. She vaguely heard the sound of running water coming from
inside.
She gently pushed open the door of the study. She put down the pudding. She thought he would feel
better after eating that dessert. Then she would tell him that she had recovered and wanted to get her
baby back.
The window of the study was open. The gentle evening breeze blew away the papers on the desk.
Claudia bent down to pick up the papers and carefully gathered them, but she accidentally touched the
keyboard with her fingers, causing the black screen of that computer to light up.
The webpage on the screen was Facebook, but Ben never used any social media, and the profile page
was not his as well.
It was Hanna's profile page.
And the photo in the photo album he browsed showed Ben smiling under the shade of a tree with
Hanna in his arms. They were wearing a white couple's shirt and looked happy. Both of them had a
look of happiness and joy that would make others envy them. They looked like they were meant to be...
The photo must have been taken a few years ago. It was also clear from the time of uploading that
Hanna had not deleted the photo after such a long time. Then Claudia wondered what it meant.
Claudia lowered her eyes and took a deep breath, but she felt a pain somewhere in her chest.
“What are you looking at?”
A deep and cold male voice suddenly sounded. Ben emerged from the room wrapped only in a towel.
He looked at Claudia at the table with a cold stare.
Claudia was startled. The moment she slipped and was about to fall, Ben took a big step and quickly
grabbed her arm with his hand. At the same time, her small, soft body was locked in his arms as they
spun around.
They touched each other's skin. He was topless and slightly damp with droplets of water. And she
could clearly feel his sturdy muscles, sense of masculinity, and sexy abs, which made Claudia feel her
heart suddenly beat and blush.
Ben's deep eyes looked like they had been steamed in a mist of water, looking blurry, unfathomable,
and misty. And he couldn't take his eyes off her.
Claudia swallowed and looked away. Her heart started to speed up.
Ben glanced at the computer. His handsome face darkened instantly as he looked at the webpage and
the photo on the screen that he had forgotten to close earlier.
A cold and hostile aura emanated from his tall figure. He used one hand to cup her chin, not with much
force, but enough to lift her face, forcing Claudia to look at himself. His thin lips slowly parted, “Who
allows you to touch my computer?”
Claudia froze slightly. She took her cell phone out of her pocket with one hand and quickly typed a
sentence, “I accidentally touched it.”
“Accidentally?” Ben sounded like he had heard a ridiculous word. He repeated it in a low, mellow voice
that made it hard to tell if he was happy or sad.
She pursed her lips. She felt a shiver run through her heart as she looked into his cold eyes.
“Sorry.”
She typed again.
Claudia was afraid of angering him, or else she could not bear the consequences!
Ben's eyes were dark. He gave her a deep look before releasing his hand. At the same time, he said
those two words quickly in a low and cold tone,
"Get out!"
Claudia did not dare be slow. When she came back to her senses, she quickly turned around and left
the study.
Watching Claudia leave the study in a hurry, his mind kept flashing with her blushing cheeks and that
awkward look on her face. Ben frowned and picked up the pudding that she had left on the table. After
he took a little bite, he felt the taste...
All of a sudden, the look on Ben's handsome face kept changing drastically. There was also a
complicated look in his imperceptible eyes, which was hard to read.
In the next room, as soon as the door closed, Claudia covered her burning cheeks and leaned against
the door. She was so nervous that she couldn't help herself. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
After cooling down, she remembered the photo on his computer and felt pain.
Suddenly, she forgot about the medical records she had in her pocket.
On the next morning, Ben changed his clothes and went downstairs. He was wearing an ironed suit
shirt and holding his coat in one hand. He looked dignified and meticulously sober.
As he walked to the dining room, he gave a somber look to the woman cooking breakfast with the
nanny in the kitchen. Her slender back showed the gentleness and beauty of a woman. She had her
head slightly bowed. Although a few strands of black hair slipped from behind her ear, she didn't notice
it at all.
When he carefully searched his memory many times, he did not find any part related to her.
However, what about the taste of that pudding last night? Could it be that his taste buds went wrong?!
Claudia came over with a bowl of cereal, placed it on the table, and interrupted his thoughts.
She walked over to him and took out the medical record from earlier. As she handed it to him, her gaze
looked bright and seemed to harbor too much expectation.
Ben took the medical record in his large, bony, slender hands and glanced at it. Then he tossed it back
onto the table. His voice still sounded grim and cold, “What's wrong?”
She pointed at the column showing the final result on the medical record and repeatedly scratched a
few words with her hand.
Ben lifted his eyes, “You want to say you have recovered?”
Claudia nodded quickly.
“So?” He didn't look interested. His cold eyes seemed to be deadly calm.
She pursed her lips and hung her head for no reason. Anxiously, she took her phone and typed on it, “I
want... to take Conrad back home.”
Although she waited only a few seconds for his reply, she felt as if a century had passed. And she
didn't want to miss every subtle expression on his face. Claudia watched him firmly with her eyes,
which were as clear as the pond water.
However, all she waited for was Ben to knit his eyebrows impatiently. Then he got up very quickly and
grabbed his suit jacket. He walked toward the foyer as he put on his suit.
“We'll talk about this next time!”
Those cold words were his last reply to her, sounding indifferent and cold.
His words cruelly smashed her heart to the ground.
Ben was supposed to go out. However, as soon as he stepped out of the foyer, his slender figure
paused.
A babbling sound entered Claudia's ears. The familiar sound of a baby's voice made her naturally
startled. She raised her eyes again to see Hanna enter the villa with her son, whom she had been
separated from for days.
Conrad was lying in Hanna's arms. His little hands were grasping Hanna's long hair and playing with it
in circles.
Hanna was not angry and just held him with a big smile. When she came close to Claudia, she handed
the baby into Claudia's arms, “Come on, Conrad, let mommy hold you, okay?”
Claudia held the baby and looked at Hanna with a flustered look and mixed feelings.
Hanna slightly smiled and explained, “When I visited Mrs. Crawford, I saw this little guy. Then I thought
you must miss him so much so he’s here!”
Hanna paused. When she looked at Claudia's blank stare, Hanna added, “I didn't do anything wrong,
did I?”
