CHAPTER 48: NIGHT SNACK
CHAPTER 48: NIGHT SNACK
Alana’s POV
Dinner had surprisingly been cool. There were no awkward silences or sneaky comments, no judgmental looks when Axel consumed more food than the three of us combined when he had only just eaten a few hours before now.
My gaze occasionally slid to Axel. Gone was the broody, dark, scary, and dangerous Alpha everybody once talked about. He was still there for sure. He was there whenever someone stepped on his toes, or mine. But Axel had a kind and sweet side to him too.
I could tell he loved his family. It was evident in all of the little things. — Commending Emily when she caught two rabbits on her first shift. Calling his mom beautiful even when she was dressed so casually. Standing by the kitchen island while she did the dishes just so he would keep her company. —
This was the man that was for me. It was both terrifying and a huge turn-on for me.
He showed me that much affection too. And as for me, I was falling in love with him faster than I could control. Mate bond asides.
As soon as dinner was over, Alpha Micheal, Luna Valentina, and Axel settled in the living room for drinks. I made a beeline for our cabin partly because I was a hopeless drunk who didn't want to
embarrass herself, and partially because I wanted to give them some privacy if they had any personal matters to discuss. Alphas and all.
“Have one drink with us,” Luna Valentina pleaded. She had downed her third bottle but she was still standing firm, and her speech was nowhere near slurry.
“Drinking, for me, is never a good idea. I do not have such a high hold for alcohol. Maybe next time. And I should head to bed, it’s been a long day.”
“I’ll come with you.” Axel passed his bottle to his left hand and leisurely stalked towards me. He wasn’t requesting so I didn’t bother arguing for him to stay back.
“Well, goodnight, Son. Alana, have a good night.” Alpha Micheal waved at us.
I waved them goodnight and we exited the cabin through the back door.
When we had passed through there when we first arrived about an hour or two ago, I hadn’t been opportune to take in the opulence of the place.
It was small and homey but it didn’t fail to steal the breath in my lungs.
The two cabins were the only buildings in the acreage that expanded through the area. There was a
small lake by the side of the cabins and I made a mental note to take a dip before we left.
Since it was dark and I was already feeling dizzy, I didn’t have the chance to properly admire the view.
Once inside the cozy room, we started preparing for bed.
“What do you think?”
Assuming he meant nothing but my take on the trip so far, I responded. “It’s beautiful here. And so serene. It’s my type of place and goddess, I swear I could stay here forever.” I let a giggle escape my lips and Axel barely sparked a grin.
“Your parents are oddly chill with me.” I breathed out a relieved sigh.
“I told you you didn’t have anything to worry about,” he said as he skirted the bed in only his boxer briefs, making my skin tingle with need.
I settled on the bed ready to call it a night and Axel did the same, tossing back the covers for me to get comfortable. But his perfectly bronzed body emanating such heat and masculine energy made it difficult for me to focus.
His scent. Heavens. His scent flooded my lungs and I found myself inhaling and exhaling greedily like I was high on it.
“Go to sleep, Princess.”
“I’m trying,” I coughed.
“Stop thinking.”
From under the covers, I could feel the pink flushing my cheeks to an embarrassing point.
I must have dozed off at some point of Axel massaging my scalp tenderly because when next my eyes fluttered open, it was quieter, the room was darker, and Axel’s spot was warm. He had recently left the bed.
Tiptoeing to the kitchen to grab a glass of water —and maybe to find Axel brooding somewhere, since I was fast becoming obsessed with him, — I met Axel’s dark figure from where he stood behind the island snacking —at 3 AM.—
“You’re up.” His apex predatory gaze locked on me as I took each step closer to him.
“Yeah. I just needed a glass of water and I noticed you were gone.” I said as I cleared my parched throat.
He inclined his head, turned to the overhead cupboards, and brought out a glass. Filling it with water from the tap, I settled on a chair opposite his shadowy figure in the dimly lit room before he passed it to me.
The way his body was silhouetted by the light was already doing tricks to my imagination.
I mumbled a “thanks” and gulped the water.
“What are you making?”
“A sandwich. Want one?”
“No, thanks,” I laughed. “It’s three in the morning, Axel.”
He just shrugged. “I was hungry.”
“Fine. I’m okay watching you from here.”
He expertly whipped mustard on the slices and tossed in pieces of bacon and greens while simultaneously serving himself a bowl of chips and pulling a bottle of beer from the fridge.
“You’re going to eat all that?”
“We are,” his lips tilted ever so slightly as his hair fell forward over his face.
“No.”
He didn’t argue. He only insisted I had a taste of the combo but I found myself begging him for all of his which he gladly gave, and more that he didn’t have.
We did occasionally steal touches and kisses during our little snacks and conversations. Sometimes small soft kisses, other times, aggressive and needy kisses that tempted me to spread my legs wide, stomach flat on the island. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
My eyes fluttered open the next morning with my legs draped over Axles', my head pillowed on his rock-hard chest, and his strong muscular hands cupping my breasts beneath my top.
I wasn't complaining. I never wanted to. What sensible she-wolf would?
