Chapter 375
Chapter 375
“This isn’t on you, I’m not going to blame you.” Emmett gently stroked his hair, “You protected Alex this time, and that warms my heart.”
“But I think…I may have caused that woman’s death.” Aiden said lowly, guilt washing over him.
He had seen the woman bleeding profusely, and he was filled with self-blame.
“Don’t sweat it. I won’t let her die.” Emmett closed his eyes briefly. For a moment, he was tempted to tell his son who the woman was, but he swallowed his words. “Rest well when we get home; it’s all in the past now.”
“But…”
“It’s okay. I told you. I’ll make sure the woman makes it!”
“Can I apologize to her in person?”
“Sure thing. I’ll take you to see her once she wakes up.” RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
Aiden nodded vigorously, “I want to thank her personally for saving me. Without her, Alex and I might never have seen you again.”
Emmett smiled, “Silly boy, why would I let anything happen to you guys?”
Aiden leaned into Emmett, then suddenly sat up again, “What about my mom? Why isn’t my mom here?”
At the mention of ‘mom’, Emmett stiffened. How was he supposed to tell his sons that their mom had run off with another man?
Aiden noticed his discomfort and whispered, “Did I say something wrong again? Did you and mom have a fight? Dad, if my mom upset you, can I apologize for her? Please don’t be mad at her.”
Emmett frowned, his lips pressed tightly together, “You rest for now. I have other things to deal with. Matt, pull over!”
“Yes, Mr. Melendez.””
Emmett gave Aiden’s hand a reassuring pat, then turned and got out of the car.
Aiden furrowed his brows. It seemed like Dad was going to leave Mom too!
He didn’t know what had happened, but he felt a real sense of crisis. Would he never see his mom again?
Aiden clenched his fists, recalling what Alex had said earlier. Should he tell them the truth?
Maybe that way, his mom and dad could reconcile and be together again.
But mom’s words echoed again in his mind, ‘You mustn’t tell anyone about this, understand?’
What should he do? How could he bring his mom back?
“Look, look!” Elio rushed in from outside, handing his phone to Clara, “The kids have been rescued!”
“Really?”
Clara immediately rose from her chair at the news. Her heart had been in her throat all that time.
Every minute without news of the kids’ rescue was unbearable for her.
“Really! Look, it’s all over the news. They were kidnapped by a ransom-seeking criminal, and then Emmett went and saved them both.”
“Did Emmett find out it was Leah?”
Elio shook his head, “No, and this time, Leah got seriously injured trying to save the kids.”
“Leah got hurt?” Clara asked in surprise, “Didn’t she kidnap the kids?”
*It seems like Leah might be playing the sympathy card this time by getting hurt.” Elio speculated with a furrowed brow, “That way, she could worm her way into the Melendez family and get their approval. You know as well as I do that a guy like Emmett isn’t going to accept another woman so easily.”
