Chapter 60: Your responsibility
Christine.
He was seated on the sofa with his face glued to the laptop but I can feel his eyes boring over me.
I skimmed through the internet to keep myself busy with any entertainment gist while I hope he goes out. His presence in the house made everything worse for me.
“You’ve been awfully quiet” he blurted out and I glanced at him without saying anything.
My sole focus was on my device right now, he can go as well to spew trash for all I care.
He sighed and dropped his laptop, cracking his knuckles and looking at me with that angelic face of his.
“Are you okay?”
“Am I supposed to be okay?”
“This…this quietness is so unlike you.”
“Thanks.” I replied to him sarcastically and giggled over something I saw online.
“I don’t appreciate you being distracted when I’m talking to you.”
“You never appreciate anything, I’m already used to it. Can you please let me breathe?” I glared at him angrily and walked towards the room.
The least thing I want right now is him controlling or ordering me around. He’s gotten what he wants and sleeps around with whoever he wants to with his choice. I should be left alone to count my days of solitude while he has all the fun.
I fixed my ear buds and swayed my ears to the k. pop music while I closed my eyes.
The white Italian door was pushed open and Fanuel appeared with a tray of mouthwatering hot meals.
Ok.. that got me drenched in surprise.
_what the hell is he doing right now?
“Eat.. you haven’t had..”
“I’m not hungry.” I say sharply averting my haze from the tempting pasta screaming before me.
Fanuel sighed in frustration and for once worry laced his Greek face.
He huffed out and ruffled his hair before sitting on the chair close to the wardrobe.
His diamond necklace shone and sparkled perfectly in the reflection of the golden lights.
“I went to the court today.” He said out of nowhere and i creased my brows.
“I never asked.”
“Oak bay filed a case against my company and if I didn’t do anything, it would have been closed down.”
“….”
“I was with Mirabel also.”
I avert my gaze and stared at him.
“Why?”
“She called to tell me something important.”
“And what could that be? You had to fly out and kiss her like a ravenous starving wolf.” I blurted out angrily.
I shouldn’t be doing this but I’m just angry, I’m being disrespected.
He gasped at my outburst.
“What?”
“Are you going to deny that?”
His Adam apple pops up and down and I wonder why he’s acting this way. He shouldn’t give a damn if he fucks a whore in my sight but he’s acting…. all guilty.
“I didn’t kiss her, it was the other round.”
“Wow! It’s okay to defend her , I bet she’s too hot for her name to be tainted.”
“Can you stop it!! She told me you were raped and she wants to use that against you!”
Everything paused before my eyes as shock washed over me. I froze that instant as I stared blankly at Fanuel who was confused.
No fucking way!! My throat burned at the possibility of Fanuel looking at me like trash, a used commodity to rub it all over my face.
I fought back the tears threatening to fall as I cursed Webb over and over again.
“That’s not true.” It came out as a whisper and Fanuel nodded.
“I know.”
How the heck did Mirabel know about her worst nightmares.
Was she tailing her all this while to dig into her past?
“Are you okay? You seem lost.”
“I’m fine.” I snapped.
“Then eat your meal, the ulcer is real.”
He said and stood up to reach out for the door handle when I stopped him.
My voice came out croaking.
“Why are you telling me this?”
“I don’t know…you became awfully mute and that scared the shit out of me. I thought I owed you an explanation”
I scoffed and stared at him pushing the food cart closer.
I’ve really lost my appetite but I’m not ready to feel bad for not eating this food he brought because of Mirabel’s discovery.
“Drop the charade already, you’re doing this so I won’t sing to the press that Fanuel Hudson’s starve his wife.” He grins.
“You’re finally admitting it huh…wifey”
I rolled my eyes at him fighting back a smile.
“I think you’re being klutz with words right now, don’t let me choke before I start eating.”
“Bon appetite” He says cheekily and slams the door behind him while I sighed.
I try my best to push back every thought of Mirabel while I dig on the food.
I don’t know why but it feels good to listen to him explain himself like a good husband.
Ha! Who am I kidding? That dude is suffering from a disease called bipolar. I should rather brace up myself for the next tornado.
*****
Fanuel’s pov
Seeing her talk was better than being mute.
It was like seeing a completely different woman and I didn’t like it at all. I know it’s stupid but I love seeing her arguing.
I love seeing her flaring up with her hazel eyes staring intently at me, despite the situation I feel she put me in; I’m glad it happened.
She’s very interesting. Once in my life I have this feeling of euphoria whenever she gets clingy or jealous.
Damn!! That face of hers.
I know I’m acting downright stupid but I can’t help it. My company should be my sole aim and focus but I’m acting whipped over the daughter of a thief.
My phone vibrated and Jayden appeared on the caller ID.
“Hey kid bro”
“Stop being silly Fanuel, I can’t believe you didn’t last a week on your honeymoon. Did Christine rile you up that much?”
“That’s none of your business, I bet you didn’t call to ask me that.”
“Jerk!! It’s about what happened at
your wedding reception.”
“I’m working on that, next.”Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“Fanuel! I think it’s really important you know about….”
“Jayden, can you please stay out of whatever happened? I said I’m working on it. Did you call just for that?”
I could hear him sigh on the other end.
“Just know that Christine is in danger and no matter how much you hate her, she’s your responsibility.”
He said and cut the call while I bite my lips.
Of course she’s my responsibility but Christine is too strong headed to admit that, always acting she can do everything on her own.
Meanwhile he knew Jayden called to tell him about Jane.
She was on the last floor when the chandelier went off and broke.
