Chapter 78 - A Hostile Takeover
Chapter 78 - A Hostile Takeover
Two of Arthur's bodyguards stepped into the room and, without hesitation, walked over to Cody, who
had fainted in the corner and proceeded to drag him out of the room.
At the sight of this, everyone who was present felt a chill run down their spine, and a cold sweat began
to drip from their forehead, not wanting to experience the same fate as Cody.
"Alright," Arthur said, breaking the silence that had descended upon the room.
"I'm not a fan of violence," Arthur said with a faint smile as if he didn't feel the least bit of remorse for
his actions against Cody.
"However," Arthur continued, "I wouldn't hit Cody unless he had tried to attack me first. I hope you
understand the situation at hand." His tone indicated that he felt his actions were completely justified.
Arthur had come to the realization that to make the changes he wanted, simply attempting to live in
peace was not enough. He had to arm himself and be ready to fight if necessary; he was even Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
prepared to serve The Underworld if they continued to pursue him. His recent acquisition of the Brown
Company made it abundantly clear that he was ready to go to war with them.
"I'm announcing that I will temporarily take on the role of CEO at this company," Arthur declared "until I
find someone suitable to fill the position, which is currently vacant."
At the sound of his announcement, everyone in the room seemed to stop breathing, particularly those
who were against Arthur's decision. A buzz of panic rippled through the group as some tried to think of
excuses to make him recant this choice.
The atmosphere in the room was tense and electric; some were clearly terrified, while others were
relieved. Everyone seemed to comprehend the seriousness of the predicament and the need for
Arthur's decision.
"Do you really mean it?" one of them asked, disbelief etched on their face.
"Yes, I do," Arthur replied firmly.
"But sir, we must be careful when it comes to appointing someone to such an important position,"
another one of them argued.
Arthur nodded. "I understand your worries," he said, his eyes scanning the room. "However, I believe
that I am the only one who can manage this situation right now."
He paused, allowing his words to be fully understood. "So, yes, I am taking up this position until I find
someone suitable to fill it."
The group was silent; no one dared to challenge Arthur's decision.
"Is that clear?" Arthur asked, his gaze lingering on them.
Suddenly, the man raised his head and stood up. He was a man in his fifties with brown and curly hair.
"Sir," he said, looking directly at Arthur.
"I know you own this company completely," he continued, his voice rising with each word. "But I think
you are taking this far too lightly. Do you appreciate the gravity of what has happened to this company?
Honestly, I can't believe you deserve to be the CEO. It takes more than just being the majority
shareholder to be a successful leader; knowledge, intelligence, and qualifications are also essential.
How can we trust you if we don't even know your background, sir?"
The man paused for a moment before continuing, "I'm sorry to be so direct, but I have heard that you
used to be a janitor. Can you give us some assurance that you can lead us safely and that we are not
following a leader who will only lead us to our downfall? Plus, you have openly defied The Underworld.
I don't want to die young, sir. Please, provide us with some assurance."
Another man, who looked to be in his 40s, raised his hand and stood up. When Arthur gave him
permission to speak, he immediately began.
"Excuse me, sir. I wanted to add a few more words. I'm curious to know if you truly understand the
complexity of the company, considering your young age. May I ask, how old are you?" he inquired.
Arthur remained silent, not giving an answer to the man's question.
"Okay, okay," the man continued. "I'm assuming you're still in your 20s, am I right? What can you
contribute to this company at such a young age? Do you think running this company is as easy as
managing a coffee shop down the road? Can you take on all the responsibilities of this company? I
understand, sir, I understand how young people with ambition want to do a lot in their lives, but I urge
you to take it easy. Let us, the experienced, take the lead and you just enjoy your life."
The man then sat back down, and after the two of them had given their opinion, most of the executives
in the room felt pleased as Arthur had exposed his own shortcomings in front of the crowd. They felt
Arthur was too inexperienced to face those who were so much more senior.
"This young man must have felt incredibly discouraged, and his self-confidence must have been
completely crushed in an instant," one of them thought. "I know he is wealthy, but he is too immature
and inexperienced to think he can manage us seasoned professionals."
The employees watching the executive room's discussions through the screens voiced their opinions.
"I agree with that man," one employee said. "Our new boss may be rich, he can afford to buy this
company, but he is young and inexperienced. Besides, I also doubt he has enough education to lead
this company. It's the funniest joke I've ever heard in my life that a former janitor wants to run the
Brown Company."
Then someone else answered, trying to defend Arthur. "However, if he really is just a janitor, wouldn't it
also be a great thing if he suddenly became someone who is extremely wealthy like that? Of course
he's not just anyone right? Or perhaps, he's originally a rich man who is only hiding his identity."
"But, he's still only 25 years old," the other person replied. "He just looks like a young master throwing
a tantrum, to me. If you take a look, you'll see how many people he's attacked since he arrived here."
Alicia sat close to Edna, barely able to contain her patience. "I just want to rip someone's mouth off,"
she said, her voice tense with anger.
Gently, Edna put her hand on Alicia's. "Listen to me. Let's leave this to the boss. He already said not to
do anything until he orders. If you trust him, you'll know he'll shut them up soon enough," she said,
trying to explain her point of view.
"Ugh," Alicia replied, her expression still full of annoyance. "It's so infuriating seeing Arthur Oppa
humiliated in front of so many people."
