Searching For Her
Mercedes’ POV
Ever since I got up I’ve been thinking about the matter. The way my two pack members lost their mates. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
I don’t know Saphira well enough, we’ve never really been close, but I’ve heard her more than once state at parties she wants to stay in Silver Moon. She participated in all the mating ceremonies to find her mate within our pack but failed every time.
And last night Jace claimed her as his mate and declared that she left him without an explanation. That’s very strange, I mean, she’s first looking for him and then when she finds him, she abandons him. Things don’t add up here.
I suspect the reason for her leaving is that Jace belongs to a pack other than Silver Moon. Saphira is not ready to relocate and Jace will never allow her to stay in this pack. But I need to know this for sure and I’m going to work on that right away today. Pretty much all high rankings of Midnight Moon hate my pack, they frantically try to hide this from me, but I did notice it.
Every now and then, Kenry has a slip of the tongue and the expression on their faces when we talk about my Alpha says a lot too. I’ve never discussed the matter to know why but I feel it’s all about how Glary looks at me. And that Zane wasn’t allowed to take me to his pack when Jax called me his mate seven years ago.
Because I know that when Zane first met me, he begged my Alpha to let me live in the pack with him. A guardian would then be appointed over me to guarantee my safety. But Alpha Ahri strongly opposed this and finally they settled the matter with a visitation arrangement. Just a few more months and I can be with Zane forever, I know he’s impatient to have me with him too. We both want the same thing after waiting eight years.
And I meant what I swore to him so many times. On my birthday, as soon as the clock strikes twelve and I finish my first shift, I will sink my fangs into his neck, marking him on the spot and binding him to me for life. No mistake, watch me.
I’m now getting ready for school.
When I got up this morning, Zane had already left. He purposely left when I was asleep, knowing it would be the easiest way without much ado on my part. A smile comes over my lips. It always goes like this, when he must leave me to go to his pack, it takes hours before I can let him go. I can’t help it, the time we spend apart is so hard for me, I always want to be around my mate.
While I’m at my breakfast, I suddenly hear the doorbell.
I wonder who that can be, is a bit too early for a visit. Slightly irritated, I leave my chair to open the front door. When I throw it open to scold the visitor, I bump into a large bunch of Lilies.
My favorites.
My day can’t get any better, I grab the basket and bury my face in the bouquet. When I take the card, I smile broadly. None but my mate sent me a propitiatory sacrifice for his silent departure. I grab my phone and text him.
‘I love you too, my mate. Only a few more months
Of course he knows what I mean.
I put the flowers on the dressing table in my room. The whole atmosphere was changed by these fabulous Lily’s, that’s what Zane can do with my day.
In high spirits, I leave the house to go to school. I don’t see Clarita anywhere when I pull into the parking lot. Usually, she waits for me in the front, but not today. Obviously, she has yet to recover from the terrible events of last night, a rejection is never easy to deal with. Someone once said that this is a pretty painful experience, both physically and mentally. So, I decide to visit her home after classes.
My plan for today is to speak to Saphira’s regular group of friends. I need to know what she was thinking about, her dreams for the day when she would finally find her mate. There must be more to her behavior because I’m sure she’s wanted him for years. So she must have a solid reason to leave Jace right after their meeting and even have sex with him.
I lock my car and walk over to a group of girls with whom Saphira used to hang out. When I get closer, I just hear them talking about her disappearance.
“Hi, I’m looking for Saphira. Do any of you know where I can find her?” I ask kindly. The girls look at each other hesitantly.
“Yes, I heard she left the pack to travel aboard. Do any of you know where she’s gone?” I ask again. They are still unsure of what to say. I frown and look at each of them.
“She left with the Alpha’s son. And we don’t know if she’s coming back,” a sexy blonde says uncertainly, looking at the rest of the girls. This I already know, the info I’m looking for now is where the two are heading.
“Where are they then?” I ask briefly. They all shrug and look at the ground. This means that they know but are afraid to say.
“I heard she met her mate”, I throw in.
And now I have all the attention.
“What!!” exclaims a redhead. “She didn’t tell us about that! Who is it, then? Is he of our pack?” I look at her with interest but remain silent.
“He can’t be from our pack or she would never have left with Glary. Do you know how long she’s been looking for him? The man must be from a different pack. Remember when she cried at the last Mating Ceremony when she was unsuccessful? She already feared he was from another pack. She swore then that she would reject him because she could never be able to live outside of Silver Moon.”
So, I was right after all.
But where is Saphira? I can’t do anything without that information. I grab my phone and look for Glary’s number.
But when I call it, the number is out of order.
Sigh…
