Chapter 1046
Chapter 1046
Chapter 1046 Sabotage Rainie
He had loved Victoria for numerous years. Nevertheless, that woman would rather be hurt by Lionel
than accept his affection.
He could have resorted to force, but he chose not to.
It was precisely because he didn't that he was fated to love without ever being loved in return during his
lifetime.
With a bitter smile, Justin said, “I envy you. At least you won't hurt the girl you love. That way, your
heart won't ache so much. Veronique has sacrificed so much for me, and I promised her a peaceful life,
but in the end, I still fell into Scarlett's trap. Now everyone knows that Scarlett is my wife, and because
of this, Veronique can't even leave the house. She can only stay hidden, unable to bask in the light of
day. Hah. I wish she had never met me. That way, she wouldn't have suffered so much. She has
endured so much pain ever since she fell in love with me, and yet, I can't change anything. I—”
Seeing that he was about to launch into a lengthy discourse, Dwayne quickly interjected, “Hey, that's
enough. Let's not dwell on these upsetting matters. Instead, let's raise our glasses and revel in the
night. Tonight, we're not leaving until we've reached a state of blissful intoxication.”
After he finished speaking, he immediately unscrewed the bottle cap and handed the bottle of wine to
Justin.
Justin set aside his goblet, grasped the wine bottle, and indulged in several hearty swigs.
When Artemis and Bailey entered, the floor was already strewn with empty wine bottles.
Bill ushered Veronique and Zephyr to a different residence, resolutely declaring that should Justin
attempt to disturb them, he would send his daughter and grandson overseas, ensuring that he could
never find them for the remainder of his life.
Justin, feeling guilty, dared not seek out Veronique for the past two days.
His fervent drinking was likely a result of the pent-up frustration he had been holding inside, making it a
natural outlet for his emotions.
“Artemis, you're here! Join us for a drink,” they beckoned, a little tipsy themselves, approaching Artemis
from both sides and coaxing him into joining the revelry.
Artemis, worried that they might hurt Bailey, held his wife close and retreated a few steps. “Get a mirror
and take a good look at yourselves. All this for a woman? Is it really worth it? What? Can't live without
her?”
Justin sneered coldly, his words dripping with sarcasm. “It's easy for you to talk when you're not the
one in the hot seat. You'll know what it's like to drown your sorrows in alcohol when one day Bailey
ignores you. You might even find yourself in a worse state than us.”
Dwayne chimed in, “You'd definitely make a huge fuss.”
Artemis chuckled in annoyance, his tone icy. “Sylvester isn't here yet, and he's also nursing a broken
heart. When he gets here, you guys can drown your sorrows in alcohol together.”
Justin furrowed his brows, his expression tinged with confusion. “He's heartbroken too? That doesn't
make sense. I thought he introduced his wife to his family.”
Before Artemis could speak, Bailey on the side sneered, “He's a jerk. Did stupid things and messed up,
losing a perfectly good wife.”
At that moment, an indifferent voice came from the doorway. “Bailey, I don't like what you're saying.
You can't defend Rainie just because she's your friend. You should be well aware of what she has
done.”
Bailey turned her head and noticed Sylvester entering, holding a young lady's hand. The instant Bailey
laid eyes on the girl, a subtle, mocking smirk tugged at the corner of her lips.
As expected, she's indeed a two-faced person, and a scheming one at that. Otherwise, she wouldn't
have appeared on such an occasion.
“Hmm? Sylvester, who's this lovely lady? Is she your sister?” Dwayne slurred, his head tilting drunkenly
as he spoke while burping.
A trace of embarrassment flitted across Karina's countenance, causing her to lower her head,
portraying an image of poised dignity.
Sylvester said nonchalantly, “She's my fiancée and my childhood friend. We grew up together. We'll be
getting married soon, and we'll invite you to our wedding when the time comes.”
Dwayne's eyes widened in surprise, he stammered, “F-fiancée? That's not right. Rainie doesn't look NôvelDrama.Org exclusive content.
like that.”
Sylvester's face darkened, and he said coldly, “She's not Rainie. I've broken up with that woman. Her
name is Karina Smith, my fiancée.”
Dwayne was about to say something else, but Justin grabbed him, shooting him a meaningful glance.
Dwayne pouted and waved his hand boredly. “Ah, forget it. I don't expect a jerk like you to be devoted
to only one woman anyway. Come on, Justin. Let's keep drinking until we get wasted.”
“Sure! Cheers!”
They continued indulging in alcohol, showing no intention of getting to know Karina, which made her
feel even more awkward.
Sylvester was caught off guard; he hadn't expected the two of them to ignore Karina like this, putting
him in an awkward position.
Usually, whenever any of them brought their girlfriends along, their girlfriends were always
wholeheartedly embraced and warmly received.
However, that was not the case now.
“Sylvester, looks like your buddies aren't particularly welcoming. Maybe I should leave first,” Karina
said.
Just as Sylvester was about to respond, a light chuckle interrupted him. “Ms. Smith, your words carry a
certain bite. Are you attempting to sow discord between Sylvester and his buddies? They're just
heartbroken and feeling down, so they had a few drinks too many. Where did that notion of them being
unwelcoming come from?”
Karina looked up and noticed a young woman approaching her. Her expression quickly turned serious,
sensing an antagonistic intensity in the woman's gaze, making it clear that there was hostility lurking
beneath the surface.
“You're Bailey, right? I—”
“Ms. Smith, since this is our first meeting and we're not that familiar with each other, you'd better call
me Ms. Jefferson or Mrs. Luther,” Bailey interrupted.
Sylvester spoke in an icy voice. “Bailey, she is my fiancée.”
Bailey smiled as her gaze toward Karina turned piercing. “Is that so? Did she rise to power after
sabotaging Rainie?”
Karina's expression changed, and she bit her lip, struggling to contain her emotions as glistening tears
welled up in her eyes.
“Ms. Jefferson, what do you mean by that? Rainie and I get along very well. I welcomed her warmly
during her stay at the Hollett residence. What do you mean by 'sabotaging her'?”
Sylvester chimed in, “Yeah. Do you have some misunderstanding about Karrie? When I decided to
marry Rainie, she even offered us her blessings. It's simply impossible for her to be against Rainie.
You're jumping to conclusions.”
Bailey nonchalantly shrugged, a subtle smile gracing her lips. “Maybe. I'm just curious how someone
who gave their blessings to you and Rainie just a month ago is now your fiancée?”
“I...”
Before Karina could respond, Bailey turned to Artemis with a smile and said, “The scent of alcohol is
overwhelming here, and it makes me uncomfortable. Shall we head back?”
Artemis gazed at her with affection in his eyes and said softly, “If you don't like it here, we should go.
You and Rainie had plans to go shopping, didn't you? Let's not keep her waiting.”
Bailey slapped her forehead. “Oh, that's right! I promised to go shopping with Rainie and I totally forgot
about it. Let's not waste any more time; take me back to the Shurmer residence!”
“Mm-hmm.”
The two of them left hand in hand.
Karina was seething with anger, her body trembling with suppressed frustration.
Initially, she had assumed that visiting Sylvester's buddies would entail a warm and courteous
reception, but the reality turned out to be quite different from her expectations.
Some focused on drinking while some taunted her and then left without even giving her a second
thought or a proper acknowledgment.
“Bailey, wait a moment.”
Sylvester's voice rang out, filling Karina's heart with joy.
She initially thought he was asking Bailey to stay, but to her surprise, he added, “I want to see Rainie.”
