Chapter 30: It's Fine
Chapter 30: It's Fine
"Lauren—" Noah returned to look for Lauren after helping send Alfred to ICU, only to find that Lauren was expressionless. But her body was trembling. She was holding Alfred's bed tightly.
"Lauren, what's wrong?" Seeing that Lauren was acting strangely, Noah went over and patted her shoulder.
"Lauren, he will be fine, you—"
"I was wrong," Lauren said with her eyes closed, making Noah a little stunned.
"Where is he? I want to see him." Lauren stood up, her legs still trembling. Noah tried to help her but was pushed away.
"Lauren, don't be so stubborn. You're hurting your leg."
Lauren turned her head and smiled blandly, "If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have my broken legs."
Noah paused, not knowing how to comfort her. He could only take her to the intensive care unit.
The room was shut tight. The two of them couldn't see anything inside. Noah was a little anxious, pacing in the corridor.
Lauren was extremely calm, but her eyes were dull. She looked as if she was lost in thought.
She thought to herself, "Alfred, I won't forgive you because of this. I don't need you to replace me with your life. You want me to forgive you? Fine! Then you should stand in front of me and beg me! Don't
pretend to be pitiful in bed!"
"Doctor, how is he?" Noah first saw the doctor coming from ICU and hurried forward to ask.
The doctor glanced at the two of them and sighed. Lauren felt so cold.
"How is he?" Lauren grabbed the doctor's hand.
"The situation is a bit complicated. There is still congestion in his brain. The removal process is risky. We still need another operation. Which one of you is his family member? Come and sign the paper."
"Me—"
"Me—"
Noah and Lauren shouted at the same time.
"I am his wife. I'll sign." Lauren spoke without thinking too much. The doctor took her to sign the paper. Her hand was shaking while writing her name.
The doctor also said that the operation would have certain risks. Alfred might be able to live for a few days if they didn't have the operation. If the operation failed, it was possible that he would never get off the operating table.
"Ma'am, you should make the decision right now."
The doctor had already started urging her. Drop after drop of sweat fell on Lauren's face. The life of Alfred, the person she hated the most, was now in her hands.
She said to herself, "Alfred, I'm telling you. You are the one to control your own fate. You must succeed."
Lauren signed her name on the white paper, feeling a moment of prostration. The doctor got the signature and began to prepare for the craniotomy.
"Wait."
The attending doctor turned around and found that Lauren was already kneeling on the ground. "What are you doing?"
"Doctor, you have to save that man. No matter what the cost is, it does not matter even if I'm going to be bankrupt for this." Lauren seldom bowed her head, but she would put aside her arrogance for the sake of Alfred.
The doctor sighed, helped Lauren up, and repeatedly promised to do his best.
"Lauren, the operation won't be finished for a while, so just take a rest." Noah helped Lauren. She still had injuries on her leg. She stayed up for a few days and nights. Now she looked pale and Noah was really worried that she would faint at any moment. Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
"I'm going to see Alfred." Lauren's voice was a little light. Noah couldn't fight her, so he had to help her to walk to the operating room.
The curtains were pulled tightly. Lauren couldn't see Alfred's condition. She couldn't imagine the consequences if the operation failed.
"Lauren, what are you doing?" Alfred stopped Lauren who suddenly walked towards the ICU.
"I'm going to see him," Lauren said loudly. Noah failed to pull her away.
"Lauren, he is having the operation. There are doctors here. You will disturb their work if you get in." Noah tried to persuade Lauren, but she wouldn't listen.
"I'm afraid." Lauren burst into tears, and she collapsed when she looked at Noah. She was really afraid that Alfred would die because of her. When Alfred pestered her, she was unwilling to forgive him and even took the opportunity to suppress him. Not until he had an accident did she realize that she never really wanted to hurt him.
Noah had never seen Lauren like this. He also knew that Lauren couldn't forget Alfred. Even if there were many misunderstandings among them, they still left an irreplaceable position in each other's hearts.
Noah took a step back and let go of Lauren. Lauren immediately ran to the door.
"Alfred, can you hear me? Listen, let's make an agreement. As long as you wake up, I won't care about the past. I'll be with you again. I promise I will not lie to you!" Lauren ignored the strange eyes of the crowd. At this moment, all she cared about was Alfred.
After a long time, the doctor walked out of the ICU. Lauren's voice was already hoarse. She looked at
the doctor eagerly.
"Don't worry, he is fine now."
"It's okay, he's all right." Lauren could finally be relieved after being so tense.
"The operation was successful." Lauren suddenly felt dizzy, and then her eyes went dark.
Before going into a coma, she seemed to see Alfred being carried away from the ward.
