Edmund and Ma
Midnight Mate Ball
They were going to be late if his father didn’t start driving the car faster than a turtle could walk. He sat in the backseat with his best friend Wilson. They were both nervous to meet their mates. Both of them hoped that tonight would be the only ball they would ever have to attend. When the car finally pulled up outside the mansion in Night Howler territory, Edmund exited the car. It was now a minute past midnight.
If his mate was in there tonight, he would know soon enough. Wilson came around the car, straightening his tux jacket as he came to stand next to Edmund. They looked at each other once before they made their way to the entrance of the mansion. Nerves were already making them both jittery
“Good luck to you, Edmund,” Wilson nodded his head to the butler who opened the door for them.
“Here is to the hope that our soul mates are here,” Edmund said as he followed Wilson inside.

le were mingling in the entrance hall, soft music playing from a sound system, and laughter coming from the back of the house. They were told that the ballroom was at the back of the house and to enjoy the party, Edmund turned to Wilson to find his friend’s eyes had focused on a girl standing on the stairs
That was fast. He patted Wilson’s back, then made his way towards the bullnota, He spent twenty minutes wandering the room to no avail. No single scent stood out above the rest. His mate was not in the room. With a heavy sigh, he looked toward the back of the room where he could see a balcony outside. Fresh air would do him some good while he waited.
The minute he opened the door, her scent hit him. Cinnamon and honey. He looked in the direction her scent was coming from to see a girl in a pale rose–colored gown. Her pale green eyes locked on his. Edmund heard her breath hitch as he took a step towards her. Her raven black hair was loose, bett to flow down her back in waves. He wanted to sink his fingers into her hair.
He took one more step to close the distance, but that was not close enough for his mate. She flang her body against his as she rushed his

going around his neck, then her beautiful eyes fluttered closed as she crushed her mouth to his. Edmund felt the rest of the world fade away as tingles erupted all over his body at her touch.
They were gasping for air when they finally pulled apart, staring into each other’s eyes like nothing else matters but the two of them. They spent the next several hours getting to know each other. Mia was Beta born like he was, her father was the Beta of a small pack in Nevada. She had an older brother who would become Beta when their father stepped down. Mia also informed him she was one of her pack’s warriors, much to her father’s approval.

End Flashback
The memory of that night was something that he never wanted to lose again. Mia’s face in his mind was still as beautiful as the night they met. Edmund realized that he had never gotten to bury his mate. Never had the chance to say goodbye. He needed to go back to Jade Moon. Needed to see where Mia was laid to rest.
He knew going home would be hard for him, for Rayne, but it was something that they both would need to do together. When she comes back to Bodega Bay with Parker, he would talk to her about it. It was time for both of them to go home.
