Nine Months Too Late 19
"I was able to acquire it for the success of this project, Kage spoke on when the room had reclaimed normalcy,
"It wasn't rosy getting it, but I wouldn't go into details. However...
"How prepared are we for this project, Mr. Hawkins? Westley disrupted his speech. "Have you given a deep thought to the challenges that will come with building this skyscraper.or you're simply eager to have your name written in the halls of fame?" Kage's eyes darkened as he regarded him. "Did you say fame?" He chuckled.
He walked towards the table, and hunched over it. "Take a look around, Mr. Harper, every single member here is using a phone from my company. You seriously think I'm still desperate for fame? You got it all wrong, 'cause I think fame is actually desperate for me." "Uh... Mr. Harper, do you have oppositions to the project?" A woman asked.
"It depends." He shrugged. "I just feel a lot of things are gonna go wrong. This will likely attract a lot of enemies to us, and for the record, the land for the project was acquired under the wrong
means.
Kage gave a mirthless laugh. I should've known that was the problem. You can't seem to deal with the loss, can you, Mr. Harper Well, for the record. I'll never take what belongs to another. You were careless with the land, I only seized an opportunity when I saw it." "Hold on, did the land belong to you, Mr. Harper?" Someone asked.
"It didnt. He just thought it did and forget to secure it with the government, Kage answered before Westley could,
The room fell silent. Westley did all he could to contain his anger.
"The project seems nice he stood up. "But I'll be taking my leave now."
"Mr. Harper, that's disrespectful. We aren't done with the meeting yet, a man said.
"But Fam," he grumped and left
He met up with Sylvie and told her it was time to leave. His anger was so evident, it troubled.
"Hey, what happened? Sylvie asked as they walked to the car.
The doors were already opened for them and they got in
Westley was furning. Sylvie reached out and held his hand. "You can talk to me."
Glaning out the window, he responded. "He's using my land for a project."
Sylvie's jaw dropped. "For the group?
He didn't answer, but she knew. Oh God.
Westley couldn't take it. The land has belonged to his family for ages. But some months ago, an issue came up and it was revealed that some properties, theirs included, was still under the government.
All they needed to do was secure it with the government, and itd have remained theirs, but Westley had no idea. Before he did and could go to the government, Kage already outsmarted him.
So, under legal rights. Kage didn't snatch the land from him, but it didn't change the face that he seized the opportunity and outsmarted him.
He didn't care if he was supposed to benefit from the group project. If his land was to be used for the project, he'd rather head
With Kage heading the project, he was sure to make more profit thaj the rest of them. And that wasn't something Westley was

Tm so sorry, Sylvie said softly. I'll try to talk to him."
But even she knew how hopeless that would be Kage never listens to anyone. He didn't even agree to help her her when they were married, why would he do anything now of all times?
**********
The weekend went by in a blur.
By Monday, Sylvie had to go to work. But she went very late as she had overslept that morning and had woken up feeling sick.
She only got better after taking some vitamins, then proceeded to Fluxpoint.
As usual, the people paid too much respect to her as she made her way in. Even if they were aware she was no longer together with Kage, they still regarded as someone who use to be "special" to their boss. They didn't want to get on her bad side. Surprisingly, Kage was in her office when she arrived.
He was going through a file while leaning in front of the desk.
"Good... morning?" She sounded uncertain, finding it strange that he was there.
"What's the time, Sylvie?" He didn't look up from the file.
Sylvie rolled her eyes. Ugh, she should've known.
"I know, I know it's late. 1...
"What's the time?" He looked at her this time.
His gaze was chillingly intimidating. Hold on, why was he seeming a little pissed?
"Past ten," she sighed.
"You were supposed to be here by eight."
"Like I said, I know. Something came up and I..."
"I don't care if your little boyfriends keep you up at night, but business is business, Sylvie."
Her face crumpled up. "What the... What little boy...
"You can go on and pretend like you don't spend the nights with your newfound man, he turned away from her, dropping the file on her desk.
Sylvie couldn't believe it. "I have my own apartment, Kage!"
He turned to her again, his hands in his pockets. "So, you tryna tell me you've never spent a night with him?"
"Do your female friends spend the night with you? If yes, then well, I'm different, she rolled her eyes again. Kage's gaze lingered on her for a little while.
Why was he concerned about it anyway Sylvie thought with a huff.
"Anyway, we'll be having a meeting with some government officials at eleven. So you should get ready before then What?
1. That'll be close to lunch time. When am I expected to eat, Kage?
Kage sighed wearily. "What's this new obsession with food, Sylvie Price?"
Sylvie chomped down on her lower lip to prevent her from saying anything else. She knew she was supposed to keep her

Plus, she already had plans to have lunch with Westley.
Don't worry, the meeting is taking place in a mall. When we're done, we'll get something to cat, Kage said.
"Okay, but I already...
"And don't even tell me you already have plans of going out with someone. Its work hours, Sylvie, I may not have hired you, but I love it when my rules are respected." She was tempted to roll her eyes again, but she knew it'd piss him off this time.
When she remained quiet, he started for the door.
"You should get ready. It's almost time, he added before leaving.
Grunting. Sylvie threw a fist in the air before going round to take her seat. What an asshole.
