Chapter 37
"Excuse me?! Do you even know who you're talking to! I'm Trevon's aunt-in-law" Lauren was taken aback by Selina's tone and felt disrespected.
"Actually, you're his former aunt-in-law. I checked with Trevon, and he told me you two aren't close. So, you might want to stop throwing around the 'family' title. And another thing, you should really teach your daughter some manners. She's nothing but Trevon's cousin, but she parades around like she's trying to be the lady of the Brady family. Has she even looked in the mirror to see if she fits the part Selina was just laying out the facts. She had a chat with Trevon after putting Lauren and Madelyn in their place, and that was exactly how he spelled it out for her. Facing these two women, Selina didn't feel a bit of intimidation.
"Did Trevon really say that?" Lauren was taken aback. Her family had indeed been cozying up to Trevon because he ran the Brady family and they figured he'd keep things civil for his mom's sake. They were content just to sneak a few benefits from Trevon's influence. Sure, the Hudson family meant something in town, but who would turn down more cash? Yet, what slapped Lauren in the face was Selina's straight-up candor, just laying out the cold hard truth without even a thought for Lauren's pride"
"Don't even try to stir things up between Trevon and me! He's practically family, so your nonsense isn't gonna work on me. We used to play pretend when we were little, and I always said I'd marry him. I grew up with him. I'm the one who should be his wife, not your Madelyn was sick of people gossiping that she and Trevon weren't tight, especially Selina, with nothing going for her but her looks. She didn't think Selina deserved Trevon, not
one bil
"Ignore them, Selina. Let's just grab this necklace and go. Lydia had dealt with her fair share of shameless types like Lauren and Madelyn. With all the drama in Trevon's family, she figured the faster they bought the necklace and split, the better. There was no point in giving time to losers when they could be having a shopping spree.
But then, a lightbulb went off in Madelyn's head, and she blurted out, "No way you're snagging that necklace. I've had it on hold"
"What?" The saleswoman, who was just thrilled about closing a big sale, froze in shock.
With an eyebrow raised. Lydia shot back, "Then why's it still out here for everyone to see if you've already claimed it? Cut the bull"
Madelyn Gred back, "What's wrong with that? The store managers a pal of mine. She gave me the heads up that this fancy necklace by Angel and Cartier was up for grabs. Mom and I swung by today just to pick it up, right, Mom!"
"Uh... Yeah, that's right!" It took Lauren a second to catch on to Madelyn's cue. There was no way they'd let Selina win, especially after she had totally embarrassed them. They were set on snagging that necklace right in front of her.
"You... Lydia's forehead veins were about to pop. She thought to herself 'Man, looks like I've gotta teach you a lesson! Just as she was about to blow her top, Selina stopped her cold. Catching Selina's sly grin, Lydia bit her tongue and calmed down. She knew Selina had a plan up her sleeve for these two, and all Lydia had to do was kick back and watch the show unfold-one more round of them making fools of themselves.
Selina kept her cool and said. "Alright then, let's have the store manager come over and clear things up for us."
"Sure thing. Dialing her up right now. Madelyn whipped out her cellphone and tapped a quick call. Within moments, Shannon Wells, the manager of the Cartier store, hustled out from the back office. Spotting her, Madelyn headed straight over, grabbed Shannon's hand, and said, "Fill them in, will you? Tell them I put dibs on that Angel-designed necklace before I even stepped foot in here. As she spoke, Madelyn threw Shannon a couple of exaggerated winks.
Shannon and Madelyn went way back, so she totally got that she couldn't cross Madelyn. With a sheepish smile, Shannon said, "Right, my bad. Today's been busy, and it totally slipped my mind to have someone yank that necklace from the display."
The saleswoman put on a troubled face and said, "Ms. Wells, this lady's looking to buy it too..NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
"I'm really sorry about that, miss, Shannon said, flashing her professional smile. I totally spaced on pulling the necklace from the display, and honestly, Madelyn did call dibs on it first. Why not check out some other pieces? You've got the looks to rock just about anything here, and 1 bet we can find something just as stunning for you."
"I'll take this one," said Selina, as she coolly pulled out the black card Trevon had given her. "But hey, feel free to keep blocking me if you're looking to pick a fight with Insight Group
Shannon's eyes went wide when she caught sight of the logo on Selina's card. 'No way, Insight Group? The Brady family's Insight Group?" she thought in a flash. Turning to glance at Madelyn with confusion written all over her face, she wondered, Isn't the Brady family tied up with the Hudson family! So why's Madelyn messing with someone who's tight with the Bradys?"
Madelyn was livid. "So, you're flashing Trevon's card around. No shocker you can play big shot in here, you gold-digger! Think blowing his dough is something to be proud of? You're just after his wallet, aren't you?"
Selina fired back cool as a cucumber. "Trevon and I are hitched, and he slipped me this black card cause he wants to. He's got my back, covers all my tabs, and I'm not one bit ashamed of that. Proud? You bet. I've got a hubby willing to spoil me rotten. And you? I'm pretty sure those shopping bags are filled with your parents' cash. 15 million is quite a lot for you, isn't it?
Madelyn was shaking with rage, hardly able to believe there was a woman out there actually proud of living off her man "Why?" she thought frantically Tas Trevon lost his mind? He must've met plenty of gold diggers, so why'd he go and fall for Selina? Sure, keeping her as a lover's one thing, but he married her and brought her to the Brady manor? Looks like he's serious about being together forever. But why her?"
Lauren was taken aback by how much Trevon trusted Selina, handing her a black card like that. Knowing Trevon and the kind of dough he was rolling in, that card had to have no limits. After getting shown up by Selina and storming out of the Brady manor with Madelyn, Lauren went full-on detective to dig up dirt on who Selina really was
