Chapter 56 You Want to Marry Theo?
Chapter 56 You Want to Marry Theo?
Lacey wrapped herself in the blanket as quickly as she could.
She sat curled up and then buried her head in the bedding.
Her lovely dark hair was scattered on both sides of her face.
And underneath the hair, her ears were a visible red.
Meanwhile, Sam's eyes were bloodshot.
"What's the matter?" Theo's voice came from a short distance away, just then.
The sound of his footsteps slowly approached.
"Bang!" Sam slammed the door without hesitation.
"Nothing! Go and get some rest!" Outside the doorway, Sam said to Theo.
The latter responded with a nod. "I see. I'll go then," Theo said, puzzledly looking at the tightly shut
door.
He glanced back at Sophia's room every three steps.
"Ahem!" Sam coughed softly. He, too, went back to his room.
Soon after, the sounds of running water came from the bathroom again.
Sophia got up hurriedly and locked her room.
Then, she pointed at Lacey and ordered, "Get off my bed!"
Lacey looked up at Sophia. Her face had visibly turned from red to black. A look of disbelief flooded her
eyes.
"What's that look on your face?" Sophia frowned.
"Has your family always entered your room like this, shirtless?" With a raised eyebrow, Lacey asked Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
suspiciously.
"Hey, what do you mean by that? Sam hasn't come to my room since I reached 12. The most he did
was knock on my door and wait me out. He's never burst into my room with just a towel on—"
Frowning, Sophia pondered for a moment before turning to face Lacey.
Lacey gave her a cold stare right away. She had better not blame it on her!
"Are you having an affair with my brother?" Sophia cringed. The more she thought about it, the more it
made sense.
Why else would he come in such a hurry?
"Haha-" Lacey chuckled out loud. But despite her laughter, there was something else in her eyes.
"What's with that laugh? What are you laughing at? Speak up!" Sophia's scalp tingled from the stare.
"Switch off the light and go to bed!"
Lacey said through gritted teeth. Her tone was tense.
Only a fool would waste time answering a question like that.
Sophia's lips quivered as she obediently switched off the light.
After doing so, she paused.
Wait a minute, why should she listen to Lacey?
Lacey, on the other hand, had already wrapped herself in the blanket and closed her eyes in
annoyance.
Sophia pursed her lips. She wanted to ask Lacey what she had meant by those words in the living hall.
However, it didn't look like she'd get the chance to ask now.
"Hmph!" Sophia walked over to the couch with a doll in her arms and threw it on top.
She then turned around and glanced at the bed.
"Why should I sleep on the couch? That's my bed!"
The more Sophia thought about it, the angrier she became. And with that, she walked back to the bed.
Lying down, she pulled the blanket over and covered herself up.
Around 5.30 a.m., Lacey was awakened.
It was the middle of winter.
Darkness overwhelmed the surrounding at this hour.
Lacey had grown accustomed to getting up early in the morning over the years.
She once needed to prepare food and medicine for her mother, Maria.
But ever since Maria's death, she had woken up every morning feeling nothing but loneliness.
......
The lamp at the end of the bed softly lit. Slowly in the dimness, Lacey rose to her feet.
Next to her, Sophia was sleeping soundly with her doll in her arms.
She seemed less arrogant and domineering in her sleep and looked much pleasing to the eye.
Lacey got up and climbed out of bed. The clothing she'd washed the night before had dried.
Dressed, she then opened the door and walked out.
There were bracket lights outside the door. She slowly walked down the stairs.
At first, she just wanted to grab some water, but then she heard noises coming from the kitchen.
She could hear what sounded like complaints.
Lacey frowned and decided to investigate further.
Meanwhile, two tall figures appeared busy with something in the kitchen. The countertop was a
shambles.
"I told you to get Uncle Caleb up and do it. What makes you think I can do it?" Sam's tone was
grumble-filled.
"Caleb did a full day of work yesterday. He's exhausted. All I asked was for you to make me breakfast.
Why are you complaining so much?" Alvaro looked upset.
"Dad, do you know what time it is?" Sam sighed.
"Why should I care? All I know is that I'm hungry! Hurry up and make me something to eat!" Alvaro
growled.
Sam frowned. Having no choice, he grabbed the flour and asked, "How much water should I add?"
Alvaro replied in surprise, "How would I know!"
"Then what makes you so sure I would know!" Sam was genuinely speechless at this point.
"Google it!" Alvaro pursed his lips, seemingly like a child.
Sam pressed helplessly between his eyebrows and said, "Dad, I'll make you some instant noodles,
okay?"
"No, I'm craving dumplings! Hurry up! I'm starving to death!" Alvaro said as he poured a bowl of water
into the flour.
And just like that, the flour turned into batter.
Sam looked at Alvaro and frowned." Dad, what are you doing?"
Alvaro replied, "I'm helping you, of course. Otherwise, you'd complain that I wasn't doing anything."
"How can I make dumplings out of batter?" Sam looked at his father with a somber expression.
Alvaro raised an eyebrow. "That's easy. I'll add more flour!"
He dumped a large scoop of flour into the basin right away.
The result was, however, left Sam at a loss for words.
Alvaro, too, was muted as he witnessed the mess.
"Uncle Alvaro?" Lacey called out helplessly, unable to bear the sight.
Alvaro froze slightly before turning his head. "Lacey? You're up early?"
Sam turned his head to look at her as well.
"Pfft!" Lacey couldn't help but burst out laughing just then.
As attractive as Sam was, his face was now smeared with flour, and his dark shirt was powdery white.
Sam's face turned grim at this point.
"What are you guys up to?" Lacey moved past him, pretending not to notice his glum face.
Alvaro chuckled. "I didn't eat much yesterday because I had too much socializing. I was trying to make
something to eat—"
"Why don't you let the cook do it?" Lacey asked wonderingly.
The countertop was a terrible mess.
"The party yesterday must have drained everyone. I wish the servants could get more sleep.
Meanwhile, this guy here can't even cook me a simple meal!" Alvaro shook his head helplessly at Sam
as if he was good for nothing.
Lacey was startled by what Alvaro said.
As far as she could recall, the wealthy would only boss their servants around.
She hadn't anticipated Alvaro's kindness.
"Why don't I cook for you, Uncle Alvaro?" Lacey rolled up her sleeves. "What would you like to eat?"
Alvaro was slightly surprised. "You can cook?"
Lacey raised a smile. "Aren't you craving dumplings?"
"Yeah, do you know how to make them?" Alvaro raised an eyebrow.
Lacey smiled in response. She then stepped up to the countertop and took over the basin, pushing
Sam aside.
After that, she began to get busy.
The sloppy batter soon transformed into the dough.
Lacey then took the celery out of the fridge and rinsed it before chopping it.
Even surprisingly, the speed at which she sliced the meat was fast and steady.
Sam, who was on the side, quietly stared at the young lady. His pupils reflected Lacey maneuvering
expertly in the kitchen.
Soon several delicately shaped dumplings formed.
"Lacey, you are quite skilled. You make better dumplings than Caleb's." Alvaro was surprised by the
dumplings' final touch. He couldn't help but compliment Lacey.
"You're over exaggerating, Uncle Alvaro. Dumplings are very simple to make." Lacey giggled.
Alvaro nodded. Then, as if he thought of something, he suddenly asked, "Does Lillianna know how to
make dumplings?"
Lacey's hands did not stop moving as she replied, "Well, you'll have to ask her yourself."
After all, the twins had taken different paths in life. She wouldn't know if Lillianna knew how to make
dumplings.
"Oh, by the way, I heard you and Theo are in a relationship?" Alvaro suddenly brought up the subject.
Lacey paused for a moment at the question. She couldn't help but steal a glance at Sam, who was off
to the side. "Uncle Alvaro, are you worried that I'll be a bad influence on Theo?" She asked with pursed
lips.
"No, no, no, that's not what I meant. I thought Theo had good taste!" Alvaro rushed to explain.
Lacey grinned. "You're probably the first person to think that!"
"Why do you say that?" Alvaro asked.
"Haven't you heard the rumors about me in the South City?" Lacey lowered her head, still working on
the dumplings.
"As you said, it's just a rumor. Nobody knows if it's real. To me, you don't seem to be what the rumors
describe, and that's all that matters." Alvaro beamed.
Lacey was stunned by his answer.
Alvaro certainly had a keen eye.
"Over the years, the Garrison's business has grown. We neglected to educate Sophia. All we knew
how to do was give her a credit card and not educate her. Her brother, on the other hand, would only
spoil her. As a result, we have turned her into the arrogant person she is now!"
Alvaro sighed deeply. "I heard what you said at the banquet yesterday. You were the first person to
leave Sophia speechless."
Lacey glanced at Alvaro and asked, "Is that why you chose me to discipline her?"
Alvaro smiled and nodded.
"Uncle Alvaro, aren't you afraid that I'll lead her astray? Instead, why don't you hire a professional to
discipline her?"
Alvaro chuckled. "Lacey, life and business are the same. The only way to see the results is to bet on
them. How much worse can Sophia be? Besides, you're the first person I know who isn't afraid of her
and can render her speechless, which is already superior to any professional out there. I want Sophia
to understand that being rich doesn't mean you can do whatever you want!"
Lacey stared at Alvaro. Then she gave a genuine smile.
He was indeed a business expert.
True, life and business were the same.
One had to place a bet to see effective results.
With a bet, there'd be a 50% chance of winning.
In fact, every step she took now was preparation for Bailey's fall!
Lacey soon finished making the dumplings and served them to Alvaro.
"Lacey, your cooking skills are outstanding. This is delicious!" Alvaro was overjoyed. "If you do marry
Theo, he will be the happiest man on earth!"
"I'll do my best!" Lacey smiled. Then she glanced at the clock on the wall.
It was already half-past six. She should go back.
"Uncle Alvaro, do enjoy your meal. I'm going back to my room."
"Are you not going to eat?" Alvaro asked.
"I'm not hungry yet. It's fine," Lacey said as she walked out of the kitchen. Just beside, there was an
elevator.
She pressed the button to go upstairs.
As the elevator opened, she stepped inside.
And just as the doors were about to close, a tall figure rushed in.
......
Only then did the elevator close.
Sam leaned over. His arms against the wall on either side of her as he asked, "You want to marry
Theo?" with a mocking smile.
What did he mean by that?
Why did this question make her feel uncomfortable?
Lacey frowned. She looked up at Sam with displeasure.
Who knew that she would meet a pair of eyes that radiated intense possessiveness.
