Mr. Powell Is Hunting for His Wife

Chapter 45: Are You Feeling Afraid Now?

Chapter 45: Are You Feeling Afraid Now?

The Hills were holding the private party in one of the most well-known hotel in all of Sliwell.

Several black limousines were parked right at the entrance, and bodyguards poured out of the cars. After scanning the surrounding carefully, they headed to the one in the middle, “Mr. Powell, there isn’t anything of concern.”

The next second, a bodyguard opened the door of the car.

A leg clad in black long pants stepped out of the car, and the next second, his sculpted fingers extended to the interior of the car.

A very delicate and slithery hand clung itself to the man’s palm, and her porcelain white calf which had black high heels worn on her feet stepped out and lined up next to him.

Diana’s arm was lightly clung to Brooklyn’s arm and she was a little nervous at the moment. She asked in a hushed tone, “Mr. Powell, am I doing okay now?” Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

Brooklyn glanced sideways at Diana’s little antics and he chuckled lightly.

Initially, he thought that with her mature disposition, she should have joined numerous night banquet.

But from the look of things now, it seemed that she had never attended a business setting with any man before this.

The Hills didn’t defy their own reputation as one of the largest clothing brand manufacturer in the world. Those who appeared at this banquet were familiar faces whom Diana recognized and they were very active in the fashion industry of Sliwell.

She continued to hold on to Brooklyn’s arm as she maintained a smile.

The moment she stepped into the banquet hall, she could feel piercing and scrutinizing gazes being cast at her.

“Mr. Powell, long time no see.” A middle-aged man raised his glass of wine as he walked towards Brooklyn.

He seemed to fake an astonished look when he looked at Diana. His gaze was greedily searching her too.

This woman was so breath-taking. It was no wonder the president of the Powell Group would bring her along.

“I heard that the auspicious matter between you and the young lady of the Moss family is approaching. So why would you have such a beauty on your arm at this juncture? Aren’t you afraid that your missus would be jealous when she learns of this? I even know that the two of you have been living together now!”

The middle-aged man was babbling nonchalantly, but he was actually disclosing the fact that Brooklyn already had a fiancée.

Diana was a little speechless.

The middle-aged men nowadays were seemingly running out of means to hit on girls.

“You’re Mr. Barton, am I right?” Diana allowed herself a demure smile as she let go of Brooklyn’s arm.

Albert Barton flashed a greedy smile when he heard that.

Did he have a chance here?

He was greedily taking in the sight of Diana and he couldn’t help making a swallowing motion.

“Ms. Miller, why not we have a little conversation elsewhere?”

“I don’t think that’s necessary.” Diana rejected him politely while she cursed at him in her heart. Was it appropriate of him to blatantly seek something that should belong to Brooklyn? Was he not afraid that Brooklyn would punish him for that?

Brooklyn’s face was hardened as one of his hand was still in his pocket. He was watching Diana’s antics.

“Mr. Barton, perhaps you have some misunderstanding here. Firstly, I am not Mr. Powell’s woman. I am just his employee who comes to accompany him to participate in a night banquet.” As Diana said that, she raised her hand and pointed at Harper who was not far away, “Do you see him? That’s my colleague. We are here to tag along Mr. Powell on this business trip. It’s just that as a woman, I pair well with Mr. Powell at this occasion. This is a banquet after all, and don’t you think it’s unbecoming for that male colleague to wrap his arms around Mr. Powell’s, do you?”

Brooklyn, “…”

He flipped his eyelids and peeked at Harper who was not far away and he let out a cold chuckle.

She wasn’t wrong about that.

When Albert heard Diana’s explanation, he looked a little awkward.

Who would think that this charming and voluptuous woman here was a rose with thorns!

“Secondly,” Diana continued abruptly as she shot a cold glance at this man in front of her. She had a smile on her face, “I like handsome men. About men like you… you are not my cup of tea. To tell you the truth, I have been having my eyes on Mr. Powell for a long time, but too bad that he is turning a

blind eye to my admiration. Do you think that I, who has longed for Mr. Powell for so long, would turn my attention to you?”

Albert almost vomited blood as he pointed a trembling finger at Diana. He stammered for some time but no coherent sentences were form from his mouth.

“That’s enough.” Brooklyn glared at Diana who was obviously enjoying herself, “Mr. Barton, you heard it from her. This woman is no pushover. If you want to hit on women, I don’t recommend her at all.”

After saying that, Brooklyn put his arm around Diana’s shoulders and he brushed past the stunned man.

“Anna, you should try not to stir up any trouble at this kind of occasion.” Brooklyn glanced at the woman in his embrace as he let go of his hand and replaced it back into his pocket, “The participants here are well-known figures in the fashion industry of Sliwell, so if you still want to have a place in the hierarchy here, you shouldn’t offend anyone here.”

Diana smiled sheepishly, “Mr. Powell, what are you saying? I have you as my backer, so do you think I still need anybody else?”

Brooklyn looked a little hesitant, “Do you even know what you are saying now?”

“Of course I know what I am saying. In all of Sliwell, no matter it is the fashion or perfumery industry, in order to have a good footing here, it’s best to side with the Powell Group. Therefore, as long as I cling to you, anybody else in the fashion industry is not of my concern.”

Brooklyn snickered coldly as he acknowledged the fact that Anna was the first and only one who could boast about sucking up to him so blatantly.

“You are overestimating yourself.” Brooklyn spoke in a soft voice.

“Mr. Powell, I never overestimate myself. Firstly, there is no one better than me in Sliwell who can beat me at my game. Secondly, my looks should still be fancied by you. And thirdly, I happen to be able to cure your insomnia. It’s just that everything lines up perfectly. That’s all.”

Brooklyn curled up the corner of his lips. She was indeed amusing.

Without any concern for gazes cast by others, he lowered himself and whispered by her ears, “You say you can cure my insomnia? What a boaster. How do you plan to cure me of my insomnia at night? Do you plan to come sleep with me after coming to my villa?”

His magnetic voice aroused something in Diana’s heart.

Her shoulder trembled for a moment but she soon returned to her usual self after suppressing this strange sensation. She rolled her eyes at this man who was too close to her, “Mr. Powell, are you trying to push me into the fire? Ms. Moss is staying with you now. You don’t need to come up with just a shitty idea.” Diana complained.

Brooklyn continued to watch this woman, “Are you feeling afraid now?”

Diana pursed her lips, no longer saying anything.

Outside the banquet hall…

Mirabelle took off her sunglasses and handed it to her assistant.

Her fingers which had her nails polished were holding an invitation card. She handed it to a waiter nearby.

She didn’t even so much as take a look at the waiter as she trod into the hall.

Mirabelle’s style always resembled a gentle young lady hailing from a wealthy family.

She never wore something so slick and simple like she was wearing today.

In no time, she was able to attract curious glances from the others.

However, those who were present immediately noticed that she was wearing something familiar.

Wasn’t she wearing the same black evening gown as the woman by Brooklyn’s side?
