After arriving in the study, Madelyn called Melinda to inform her that she would be leaving Klago City for two days. Thus, she could not drop off food to Serena tomorrow morning.
Perhaps the incident in the morning had caused Melinda to sound slightly off on the phone. "That's alright."
"Are you still upset about what happened this morning?"
"Maddie, you and I come from different worlds. It's not right for you to
have a friend like me who owes you money."
"Silly, don't mind what Roger said since that's how he is. I've already told him off, and he also felt rather bad about what he said," Madelyn
comforted Melinda over the phone.
After all, what Roger said was indeed very hurtful. It was normal for Melinda to feel upset.
Seeing how Madelyn kept comforting her, Melinda felt awkward to suggest that they should stop contacting each other. Melinda tried to calm herself and said, "I'm not angry. What he said merely helped me realize how different I am from all of you."
"Relax. I'm Rena's godmother now. Even if you believe that we're from different worlds, nothing will change that."
"Right. Thanks, Maddie."
"I need to get back to work now. I just want to remind you not to overthink things. What's most important now is Rena's health."
"Alright."
Madelyn rubbed her temples in frustration after ending the call with Melinda. Roger was truly something.
Madelyn initially wanted to help Serena, seeing how adorable yet pitiful she was. But what Roger said had left an unspoken tension between her
and Melinda for no reason
After disconnecting the call, Melinda hurriedly went to the consultation. room to dispose of the medical waste. Aside from the doctors on duty, everyone else had already gone home. She wanted to quickly finish cleaning up the place so that she could head home to accompany Serena.
From the moment Madelyn came into their lives, Serena had turned rather clingy, suddenly always needing company. Thus, Melinda wanted to spend more time with Serena.
The hospital director was also considerate of Melinda, knowing that it wasn't easy to raise a child. Thus, she was offered a job as a cleaner at the hospital as well as a part-time job at the cafeteria. Melinda was also assigned to care for elderly patients at night, where she would have to check on them once in a while.
It was exhausting to hold three jobs, but Melinda knew that she had to work hard. Since Madelyn was covering Serena's medical bills, Melinda couldn't afford to owe her any more than she did now. Madelyn worked on her draft until 10:00 pm. When Andrew entered the study on time, his heart fluttered as he saw how focused and serious she seemed under the light. He had never seen her this earnest before.
Madelyn closed her folder before looking at Andrew standing by the door. Darling, it only took an extra minute."
Andrew smiled while walking toward her. He then carried her and strode out of the study while saying, "You do look different when you're serious."
Hearing how he seemed to be talking to her like a child, Madelyn tugged at his collar and said, "Darling, we're husband and wife now."
That was the downside of growing up together. Many times, Andrew still considered her a child, unable to forget her as a crybaby.
Andrew laughed even more heartily as he watched her protest. "Yes,
Maddie has indeed grown up." But she still wasn't smart enough.
Although Andrew did not say those last words aloud, Madelyn still knew what was on his mind.
After a shower, Andrew lay on the bed with Madelyn in his arms. "Did your ask Dr. Kent to change the medicine? It's not so bitter this time."All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Andrew hummed in response. He always noticed how she had a hard time taking her medicine. He tasted it for himself and found the medicine to be terribly bitter.
Meanwhile, Elena had drunkenly returned to Lakeview Villa.
Amelia had been waiting for her the whole day, having felt uneasy after meeting Madelyn. The sight of Elena looking completely unlike her usual ladylike self made Amelia furious.
