Chapter 36
Chapter 36
"My mother often mentions you and speaks highly of you," Lenny said.
"I'm flattered. I am also quite fond of your mother. She's a very kind and gentle woman. Mr. Foster...
Since you've agreed that I have behaved myself in the past year and haven't caused you any trouble
and that I have gone along with our divorce peacefully, can you promise me one thing?" Scarlet asked.
"What is it?" Lenny asked, raising his eyebrows.
"I haven't quite made up my mind yet. Can we talk about it when I'm ready to make a decision? I
promise it won't involve anything illegal, and I won't make things difficult for you." Scarlet spoke
cautiously.
She had to create a way out for herself. She wanted to use that promise to keep her child if he found
out about her pregnancy.
Of course it would be best if the baby was born safely and secretly.
Hearing her words, Lenny looked at her.
His piercing gaze went deep into her soul. He was like an eagle, soaring in the sky and looking down at
a tiny prey in an open field. Her scalp tingled at his intense stare. She wanted to avoid his eyes. In the
end, she managed to suppress her discomfort and stare back at him.
She couldn't look guilty. Otherwise, her secret would be exposed.
She forced herself to be calm, neither humble nor pushy, and fearlessly looked into his sharp eyes.
But unbeknownst to Lenny, she was clenching her fists tightly, and her palms were sweating.
The seconds ticked by at a glacial pace. Scarlet even thought that time had frozen.
Just as she was about to lose her cool, Lenny nodded and said, "Okay. You truly have done a good job
in the past year. I also owe you a favor for bringing my mother and grandmother closer to each other. If
you need anything, just tell me, and I will help you."
"Thank you," Scarlet answered sincerely, breathing a sigh of relief.
Seeing this, Lenny arched his brows and asked, "Are you hiding something from me?"
"Ahem..."
Scarlet choked again. It wasn't serious this time. Lenny gently patted her on the back.
"No, I'm not hiding anything from you," Scarlet replied rather hastily.
"I... I'm done. I'll go upstairs and rest now."
She cleaned up the table and left in a hurry.
Looking at her fleeing figure, Lenny couldn't help narrowing his eyes.
He felt that she was indeed hiding something from him, but they had nothing to do with each other now,
and it would be inappropriate for him to ask about her personal affairs.
Scarlet thought she could leave the next day, but the weather was still bad, and the damage it had Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
caused so far was even worse.
There was even news of landslides and flash floods.
Today, Lenny had an important meeting. When Drake went out to explore the road, he found the streets
were blocked by fallen trees. They had to wait until the rain stopped and the workers cleared up the
roads before they ventured out.
Scarlet knew her place as an outsider and refused to go downstairs for meals. She ate alone in her
room, leaving Lenny and Rosaline in peace.
She didn't come out until they were back in their rooms.
She saw that the rain had stopped and that the wind had slowed down a lot. It seemed that she could
leave now.
"Miss Brown, I have prepared an umbrella for you. You said you would leave when the weather is
better," Rosaline chirped, approaching Scarlet.
"Yes, I did. Thank you for letting me spend the night. I won't disturb you anymore."
"Thank you for your understanding, Miss Brown. We are both women. We don't need to make things
difficult for each other, right?"
In Scarlet's opinion, this woman was interesting. Rosaline always looked humble and weak in front of
Lenny, but in front of her, Rosaline was aggressive and possessive.
Scarlet wondered if Lenny had seen this side of Rosaline.
She took the umbrella, turned around, and left. Then, Rosaline went upstairs with a sigh of relief.
As Scarlet walked to the door, she was spotted by Drake.
"Miss Brown, where are you going?"
"I think I can go home now."
"But the roads are blocked."
"Yes, they are, but I can walk on the side of the street by myself."
"I think you should tell Mr. Foster that you're leaving."
Hearing this, Scarlet took a look at the villa's second floor. She really had no right to disturb her ex-
husband anymore. What was more, Rosaline had already made it perfectly clear to her that she didn't
want her to trouble Lenny. She didn't even want her showing up at the villa unannounced. They were
all adults, so Scarlet told herself that she should be sensible and not bother them anymore.
She flashed Drake a sweet smile.
"No, thanks. And please don't tell him. He has his work and Rosaline to worry about. I'm going now. I
hope that you guys and I won't have to see each other again."
Then, she left without looking back.
