Independence 279

Martha asked, “Ms. York, the chicken soup isn’t fully cooked yet, what are you doing?”

“Just put it in the bag, why do you have so much to say?” Ingrid snapped. It didn’t matter whether it was done or not–Evelyn probably wouldn’t drink it anyway.

It’s even better if she did; maybe it’d give her food poisoning.

Once she arrived at the hospital, Ingrid didn’t bother knocking. She pushed the door open right in.

“Mrs. Johnson, I brought you some chicken soup,” she announced.

and walked

The moment Evelyn saw her, the headache that had just started to ease off flared up again, leaving her both dizzy and furious. “Who told you to come here? I don’t want to see you. Get out!”

I I

Ingrid put on her most sincere face. “Mrs. Johnson, I came to apologize. I was out of line yesterday and shouldn’t have talked back to you. This is chicken soup that I made this morning: it’s still hot and good for your health,”

Evelyn sneered, “An apology? You sure as hell don’t harbor any good intentions. I’d be grateful if you stopped stressing me out. Do you really think I’d drink your soup?”

She was afraid Ingrid might’ve spit in it!

Ingrid’s smile stayed sincere, but inside, she was cursing Evelyn–if only she could actually stress this old woman to death!

While thinking this, she kept moving. She opened the thermos, poured the soup into a clean bowl, and held it out with both hands.

“You’re being unfair here, Mrs Johnson. I truly came here to apologize. This soup was cooked for two hours, it’s nourishing; please have some-*

Before she could finish, Evelyn slapped the bowl away, sending it flying. Then, she grabbed a pillow and threw it at Ingrid, shouting, “Get out! I’m not drinking your soup! Who knows if you’ve poisoned it? Get out!”

Ingrid was thrown out of the room. She had managed to dodge most of the soup, but some still splashed on her dress.

Her white Dior summer dress was now stained, and the splatters were obvious. She tried wiping it with at tissue, but the marks wouldn’t come off, so she gave up in frustration.

In any case, she had plenty of designer clothes in her wardrobe, some with tags still attached; switching to a new outfit was no problem. After taking a couple of steps, Ingrid suddenly remembered something. She took out her phone and found Hansel’s WhatsApp. But then, she recalled that he had long since blocked her.

Her expression darkened, and she switched to sending a text message with the photo of the chicken soup she had taken at home earlier.

“Hans, I visited Mrs. Johnson and sincerely apologized to her. I’m sorry.”

As expected, there was no response from his end. Ingrid didn’t mind; she put away her phone and left the hospital.Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.

Just as she was about to get in her car, she heard a cold voice call out, “Ingrid?

When she turned, she realized it was Tina–her future sister–in–law!

Ingrid immediately smiled and walked over to her. “Tin=”

Without a word, Tina slapped her hard across the face,

Ingrid was stunned.

Tina pulled her hand back, her chin held high with arrogance. “This slap is to teach you a lesson about knowing your place. Who do you think you are? Even my brother doesn’t dare talk back to my mom, and you go and piss her off enough to make her end up in the hospital?”

Ingrid clutched her cheek. Her forced smile was still plastered on her face. “H–How could you hit me?”

“You bet I can hit you, you lowlife! Don’t think that just because you’re pregnant, you can act out of line. you’d better pray my mom is okay, or you’ll regret it.”

With that, Tina brushed past her without so much as a second glance. Someone of her stature–an heiress

-would never bother to look at an ant.

Back then, even Miranda would’ve at least received a polite greeting from her; now, Ingrid was only worth a slap.

Every time Tina thought about it, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes!

What kind of poor judgment did her brother have? To give up Miranda and end up with this mess!
