Chapter 135
Chapter 135
Chloe's POV
Our refuge, concealed within the verdant expanse of Dalrion's lush forest in the northern suburb,
became our sanctuary for the next five years. As we grappled with the remnants of our once-thriving
Red Moon Pack, our paramount objective was clear – to avenge our fallen kin and reclaim our lost
territory.
Since my father, the former alpha, passed away, we, the remaining members of the pack, came
together, resolute and unwavering in our determination to achieve our common purpose. With the
forest's dense canopy offering us the protection we needed, we tirelessly trained and persevered in our
mission to rebuild our shattered pack.
Drawing upon our expertise in poison-making, we skillfully concocted a myriad of medications and
potent poisons. These elixirs not only enhanced our speed and strength but also fortified our resolve to
emerge victorious. Throughout the grueling struggles and sacrifices we endured, we transformed
ourselves, growing stronger with every trial and tribulation we faced.
As the years passed, thankfully, our tenacity bore fruit, as we forged a formidable unit of highly trained
and powerful individuals. This elite group surpassed expectations, able to challenge even the mightiest
armies of rival packs.
United by a shared purpose and bolstered by our newfound strength, we were prepared to confront any
adversary standing in the way of our goal. No matter what, we were clear of our objective to avenge
our members who were brutally murdered and retake our land that was forcefully taken from us by the
Alliance led by the BloodHound Pack.
I meticulously surveyed the area, my eyes carefully scrutinizing every nook and cranny of our hiding
place. "Before I set out to find you, I already made sure there were no enemies tailing us. You can rest
assured, everything is secure," Caleb reassured me with a carefree grin, which momentarily took me
by surprise before I chuckled.
"I only glanced around. How on earth did you know what I was thinking?" I asked in amazement.
"I am your aide, the one who has stood by your side throughout these years. Should it be so shocking
that I understand your thoughts?" Caleb replied, maintaining his smile. Indeed, over the past five years,
Caleb had remained steadfast by my side, assisting me in harnessing the power of Aurora and helping
me rebuild the remnants of the Red Moon Pack. He had been there through every challenge, making
himself indispensable to me.
With that realization, I stopped walking and turned to face Caleb, my expression serious. "You know, I
still can't comprehend," I began.
Caleb halted as well, raising an intrigued eyebrow. "Understand what?" he asked.
"Five years ago, when I rushed to the Red Moon Pack to save Vanessa and the others, you abandoned
your own plans and came to my rescue," I explained.
Caleb playfully smirked, acknowledging the truth of my statement. All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
"At that point, I could understand it. After all, if our roles were reversed, I believe I would have done the
same," I admitted.
"What I can't fathom is your reason for staying. Not only did you save me, but you also helped us find
this hidden refuge and established a base. You dedicated yourself to assisting us in rebuilding our
forces. I know you still search for survivors from your own pack, but for the past five years, the majority
of your time and effort has been devoted to helping us get back on our feet," I said, my voice softening.
"Without you, the process of starting anew would have been much more arduous. Caleb, I can't
express enough how grateful I am to you."
“I needed you, so I selfishly received your assistance and protection. I didn’t really ask. Caleb, I want to
know what your reason is for helping us,” I asked him with earnest eyes.
If it’s Caleb, I wouldn’t be surprised if he helped us just because he wanted to. But if he helped us
rebuild our strength in order to help him achieve his goal, then I would do everything to help him.
Caleb was someone with clear eyes, usually I do not have difficulties in knowing what he was thinking.
But at that moment, Caleb’s eyes were unfathomable. I didn’t know what he was thinking.
Caleb didn’t answer for a while. He looked at me intensely. It was only after a few seconds when he let
out a helpless sigh. Then, I felt his hand reaching for the top of my head and rubbing it. Surprised, I
tried to avoid his hand but to no avail.
Caleb’s smirk turned deeper as he rubbed my head. His eyes twinkled as he teased me, “The owner of
the legendary white wolf… the Alpha of the secret pack that could threaten the united Alliance. The
most brilliant doctor and poison master I have ever seen in my life…”
“You usually sparkle so bright that it hurts my eyes just looking at you. But in some things, you are just
so dense…!” Caleb laughed while teasing me.
I struggled for a moment before managing to grab his hand and giving him a glare. “What?” I snapped.
“I am serious with my question. I want to know whether you need us for anything. If you want our
assistance too in looking for survivors of your pack or whatever you need, then feel free to tell me. As
long as it doesn’t hurt the pack, then you have my word that we will help you…!”
“Alright– the most powerful Alpha Chloe. I will not shy away and ask for your help if I need it,” he
chuckled.
“But you are wrong about a lot of things. Five years ago, the reason why I risked my life to rescue you
was not because it was the right thing to do,” Caleb replied.
“I am not a saint. I can’t go around, risking my life to save some strangers that I barely knew existed.
The sole reason for me doing that… Isn’t it because of you?” Caleb sent me a playful smirk.
“Ah?” I looked at Caleb, startled.
“You were just a weak, injured woman who couldn’t even shift. But you took the dagger I gave you and
prance yourself in the middle of your enemies. I just couldn’t turn a blind eye on you. I thought - if I
don’t rescue this feisty little girl and just let her die like that, then I probably wouldn’t be able to sleep for
a week,” he laughed, making my face turn red.
“But if you want to know the reason why I stayed with you and gave you my service through these
years…” Caleb started to say, his smirk turning into a gentle smile, “Then you have to think hard about
it. I will not tell you.”
“At least, not yet,” he said softly.
“So, think about it carefully. Before you close your eyes at night, and the moment you wake up in the
morning… you should think about it carefully,” he added.
Somehow, the atmosphere around us changed. I looked at Caleb and couldn’t fully understand what I
felt. However, before I could react, suddenly, I turned around and looked sharply in the right direction.
Caleb, who was standing close by, likewise frowned before looking in that direction.
“Did you feel it?” I asked him, all the playfulness in my face gone.
“Intruders?” Caleb asked and I nodded heavily in response.
“At least three werewolves - sentinels - just entered the town.”
