Echoes Of a Forsaken Heart

Chapter 105

Chapter 105

After closing the recorder app, she casually pocketed her phone. Then, with a composed expression, she hailed a cab and returned home.NôvelDrama.Org content.

It wasn’t until she crossed the threshold that Natalia felt as if all the energy had been siphoned from her body.

She stood frozen by the door for what seemed like an eternity before pulling out her phone to listen to Giselle’s recording once more.

Only after the playback did a sharp, unrelenting pain surge through her chest.

She hadn't expected this. Her child, gone just like that.

And to think, it was Eveleen!

Natalia clutched her phone tightly, and after what felt like an age, she let out a laugh. It was a laugh, yes, but it was laced with an overwhelming sense of agony.

In the darkness of the room, she just stood there, motionless by the door, as if she was desperately trying to suppress the fury welling up within her.

It was the sudden jingle of her phone that shattered this oppressive stillness.

Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Natalia finally answered the call.

Scarlett’s voice came from the other end.

“Natalia, the holiday is coming up, and we've got a three-day weekend. Let’s go have some fun, blow off some steam.”

Natalia forced a smile. “Sounds good.”

“Where do you wanna go? We should plan it out.”

Leaning against the door, Natalia took her time before responding, “Anywhere is fine, you pick.” Scarlett paused, sensing something off in Natalia’s voice.

“What’s wrong? Something happen again? Is Hamilton giving you trouble? That jerk...” “Scarlett.” Before Scarlett could finish, Natalia abruptly cut her off.

“| think... my miscarriage might have been someone’s doing.”

Scarlett gasped in shock. “What are you saying? Didn't you say someone shoved you?”

Natalia took a deep breath and recounted everything Giselle had said today to Scarlett. Upon hearing it all, Scarlett was livid.

“So, you're telling me Eveleen orchestrated everything? From your injury to your miscarriage. even the online bullying that followed?”

Natalia, repressing her sorrow, simply replied, “Perhaps.”

Truthfully, she wasn’t sure if Giselle’s words were credible. But regardless of the truth, she was determined to unravel this mystery.

“What about Hamilton? Does he know?” Scarlett inquired. Natalia let out a bitter chuckle. “I’m not sure.”

Indeed, she wasn’t sure if he knew about it. After all, Hamilton had always been in denial about the child, and its loss seemed inconsequential to him.

Or maybe he did know. Someone as astute as Hamilton could easily discern the truth yet choose to remain silent, never mentioning a word. Breaking that fan’s father’s legs was probably the extent of what he was willing to do for that child.

As for Eveleen’s schemes, he could feign ignorance or act as if nothing happened. Ultimately, whether it was her or their child, neither could outweigh Eveleen’s importance in his heart. Atear silently trickled down Natalia’s cheek. Never before had she felt such acute heartache.

“Natalia, don’t panic. We need to investigate this and get to the bottom of it. After all, Giselle’s word isn’t gospel. We both know what she’s like. This could be another trap, waiting for you to take the bait.”

Natalia acknowledged with a short grunt, wiping away the moisture from her eyes. “| know, don’t worry. I'll look into it.” “If there’s anything | can help with, just give me a call,” Scarlett said.

At that moment, Scarlett felt a bitter resentment towards their humble status. If only they were of more significant standing, perhaps she could offer more help. But as it stood, she could only watch. Even though she strongly believed Giselle was telling the truth, she felt powerless.

Natalia inhaled deeply, managing a smile. “Will do.” After hanging up, Natalia sat down at the bar.

The first snowfall of the season in Silkwood City had begun to gently drift down. Natalia gazed at the swirling snowflakes outside the window, her mind a blank canvas.

Did Hamilton know? Yet, a voice inside her whispered, what if he didn’t?

But even if he didn’t know, what then? Would he help her? Would he assist her in uncovering evidence that his cherished Eveleen was behind the death of their child?

She contemplated calling Hamilton, but her finger lingered over his contact for ages, never dialing. She lacked the courage and conviction.

She had no idea if Hamilton would come home tonight, and yet, as if to challenge herself, she waited for him right there. 2/4

Time ticked away. A thin layer of snow had already settled outside the window.

After what felt like an eternity, she finally heard the apartment door open.

Lifting her head, she saw his silhouette emerge in the dim light of the doorway, still as dashing as ever. His slightly disheveled hair was dotted with snowflakes, and his black coat carried the chill of deep winter.

“You're back?” Natalia spoke, her voice the epitome of calm. Upon hearing her, Hamilton turned his gaze in her direction.

Only then did he realize that Natalia hadn’t gone to bed. She was still in the same clothes she had worn during the day.

His eyes narrowed slightly. Without turning on the lights, he shrugged off his coat and approached her. “Why haven't you gone to bed?” He reached out, his fingers grazing her hair, before lifting her chin with his long, slender fingers.

Under the dim light, her face was alarmingly pale, her eyes still glistening with a hint of moisture. Even the corners of her eyes and the tip of her nose were tinged with a faint pink.

“You've been crying?” Hamilton’s brow furrowed deeply. He knew she had visited her mother. While out drinking, Elliott had mentioned in passing that he saw her leaving the hospital.

“What's wrong? Is your mother not doing well?”

Natalia’s lips twitched, but it was a few moments before she spoke. “No, she’s fine.”

“Then what's the matter?” Hamilton's fingers gently traced the pink at the corner of her eye. But suddenly, Natalia pulled away from his touch.

Hamilton, looking at his hand that she had just avoided, his expression darkened instantly. “Natalia, what's with the cold shoulder?”

His fingers pinched her chin, turning her face back towards him. The man’s expression carried a hint of indifferent chill. He had a certain tolerance for Natalia, but what he couldn't stand was her evasiveness and her attempts to set boundaries between them.

Unfortunately, at that moment, she was exuding both. She didn’t want his touch, and he could feel it.

“Is it still about what happened today?” Hamilton asked, his grip tightening unconsciously.

Natalia endured the pain on her jaw, lifting her gaze to meet his. She thought she had her emotions under control. But as she spoke, a glimmer of tears betrayed her. “Hamilton, | saw Giselle today.”

Hamilton’s eyes narrowed slightly, but his hand showed no sign of letting her go.

“What, did Giselle upset you again?”

Natalia looked at him. “No, she didn't.”

“Then what is it?”

Natalia’s stare was unwavering as she faced the man before her. Then, pausing between each word, she asked a question that cut through the air. “Hamilton, did you know that Eveleen orchestrated my miscarriage?”
