Chapter 20
Alpha Aston was seated in his office, poring over some documents absent-mindedly and flipping the pages furiously wh the door opened and a man entered the room.
Aston looked up, his brow furrowed with annoyance. “Hey,” he said, his voice cold and unwelcoming. “What brings you here? I thought you weren’t due back for another week.” Aston asked, not out of concern or excitement but unwillingnes see this man at the moment or anyone at all really.
The man sauntered into the room, his face impassive and composed. “I heard you had a new s**,” he said, his gaze flic over the documents on Alpha Aston’s desk.
Aston’s jaw clenched, and he rose from his seat, his shoulders tense with irritation. “Yes, and what of it?” he snapped.
“One that you treat with so much hatred. You do know that people that are really strong don’t need to prey on the weak show their strength, right?” The man advised but it only seemed to p**Alton off even more than he was already p***d.
“I don’t need your c***py pep talk. I do whatever the f***k I want to do and I think we both know how low a mere sl**e lil her ranks in the order of things that I have control. The slave p***d me off and she’s getting what she deserves.” Aston responded, doing his best to keep his temper under control.
“I understand your great power but-”
“Don’t but me,” Aston replied cutting him off. I don’t want to hear any buts. That little wench is a traitor and compared to the way I treat traitors, I would say she’s getting a really fair punishment that she or you or anyone else can’t afford t complain about I’m not trying to complain, it’s just-
“This s**e is a treacherous little wench, mated to the man who caused our pack so much pain. She deserved the punishment she received.” Aston replied cutting him off again and the man went silent for a few seconds, probably trying digest the information he just received or looking for the best way to deliver his own reply to Aston,Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
The man frowned, his eyes dark and brooding. “Are you sure that’s the truth, brother?” he said, his voice low and questioning. “Are you sure the Alpha wasn’t lying to you?” The man probed, not fully convinced that Kira would do such a thing or that all that Aston knew about the matter was true.
Aston’s lips thinned, and he took a step towards the man, his fists clenching at his sides. “You dare question my judgment?” he growled, his voice low and dangerous. “This woman is mated to Dax, the traitor who we both know has caused us great pain in the past. She deserves to suffer for her crimes and I don’t care if you think it’s true or not, I have made my judgement and you’re just going to have to stick with it.”
He held his Aston’s gaze, his expression unreadable. “There’s something about her,” he said, his voice thoughtful. “I’m not sure what it is, but she doesn’t seem like the scheming, treacherous type to me.” He continued to probe.
Aston’s eyes narrowed, and he took another step forward, his face inches from the man. “You weren’t here, he hissed, his voice cold and hard. “You didn’t see the look in her eyes when she stared at the Alpha after bffering herself up like some sort of prize to be won.” Aston growled.
His gaze flickered, his eyes darting away from his Aston’s intense stare. “And yet, you saved her,” he continued, his tone laced with accusation
Aston’s nostrils flared, and his body tensed, ready to lash out at him. But then he took a deep breath, his expression softening slightly. “She has a baby growing inside her,” he said, his voice low and troubled. “I couldn’t bring myself to let her die. Not like that.”
“It was none of your business! You should have let things be. I have everything under control. When the hell did you get back for you to start doing things no one asked you to?” Aston asked, now suddenly curious as to when his brother got back.
“I returned to the pack three days ago and I thought I would pay my brother a visit. I didn’t think I would find him doing what I found him doing and you know me,” he shrugged putting his hands in the air. “I can’t look away from a damsel in distress, especially not one as beautiful as her.” He responded and Aston stared at his brother unsure of what to say.
“Okay first off, welcome back and secondly, did you really think I had no idea that she was pregnant? What the hell do yo Take me for? A noob?”
Aston’s jaw tightened, and he let out a low growl.
“The baby will be a reminder of Dax,” Aston snarled, his fingers flexing in anger. “And that’s not something I joke with. It’s his heir after all, he’s definitely going to come for it
Brax shook his head, his face troubled. “The baby is innocent, Aston,” he said, his voice earnest and sincere. “You can’t punish the child for the sins of its father.”
Aston’s eyes flashed with rage, and he lunged forward, grabbing Brax by his shoulder, a tad too roughly.
“Don’t you dare tell me what to do, Brax,” he growled, his voice low and dangerous..
Brax didn’t flinch, his face remaining composed as Aston’s fingers dug into his shoulders. “You may be the Alpha, Aston,” h said, his voice quiet and steady, “But that doesn’t give you the right to act like a tyrant.”
Aston’s grip tightened even more, his eyes narrowing in anger. Watch your tongue, brother,” he hissed, his teeth bared in: feral grin. “You may be my blood, but I won’t hesitate to put you in your place if you defy me.”
Bray’s eyes narrowed, and he pressed his palms against Aston’s chest, pushing him away with surprising force. “You’re not the same man you used to be, Aston,” he said, his voice low and grave. “The darkness in your heart is consuming you. If you’re not careful, it’ll destroy you.”
Aston stumbled backwards, his eyes flashing with surprise and anger. “How dare you lecture me, Brax,” he spat, his fists clenched at his sides. “You’re not the boss of me, I’m in charge for a reason and I need you to remember that!”
Brax’s jaw tensed, and he took a step forward, his face hard and determined. “You may be Alpha because you’re older but that doesn’t make you any more sensible than I am. Hell, I may be even more sensible than you are.” he growled, his voice simmering with anger.
Aston’s nostrils flared, and he took a step towards Brax, his muscles tense and coiled, ready to spring into action. “I see you still have a whole lot to learn brother, being sensible alone doesn’t make you a leader, this shit that I do takes guts,” he snarled, his eyes gleaming with malice.
Brax’s eyes narrowed, his expression fierce and focused. “I’m not here to fight you, Aston,” he said, his voice grave and purposeful. “I’m here to stop you from making a mistake that you’ll regret for the rest of your life.”
Aston’s fists trembled, and he let out a low, guttural growl. “You think you can stop me?” he spat, his voice dripping with mockery. “I can do whatever the f***k I like, okay? Now go enjoy your time in the pack instead of sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong, you just got back.” Aston warned and Brax gave a small nod before walking out the door and back to the room where he kept Kira.
Kira looked up to him with a smile as he walked in but it was a smile that Brax couldn’t seem to return because of the news that he brought to her.
“Glad to see you’re feeling better.” He said and Kira thanked him with a wide smile on her face.
“I hate to break it to you though, me helping you doesn’t mean much, I did what I did out of the kindness of my heart but that doesn’t mean that I want to have anything to do with your issues. I have no intention in joining the war that is going on between you two, that’s for the two of you to settle. He said and Kira smiled weakly
She couldn’t say that she didn’t see it coming, it made her sad but she knew that she wasn’t going to get out of Aston’s hands so easily so she wasn’t surprised. What she was though was grateful.
I really appreciate all the help that you’ve rendered, I truly can’t thank you enough but please know that I’m forever indebted to you.” Kira thanked him and he nodded suddenly noticing how beautiful she was. He was shocked and a part of him wondered how she would look in her full glory.
