Chapter 112
I was in my element, shaking hands and kissing cheeks, pretending to be interested in the mundane conversations that filled the room. I had done this a thousand times before, and I knew exactly how to work the crowd. But, as I was chatting with a particularly dull couple, I didn’t notice that half the room had excused themselves to the bathroom. And, more importantly, I didn’t notice that a chaos was ensuing.
It was not until I saw a group of people gathered outside the bathroom door, looking worried and confused, that I realized something was amiss. And then, it hit me-Kira was in that bathroom. I had a feeling she had something to do with the crowd that was forming
“Excuse me.” I said to the couple. “I think I need to go and see what’s going on.”
I made my way over to the bathroom, my curiosity getting the better of me. As I approached, I could hear raised voices and what sounded like a scuttle
“What’s going on here?” I demanded, pushing my way through the crowd.
One of the guests, a timid-looking woman, turned to me and said, “I don’t know, but I think it has something to do with Kira. She went in there a few minutes ago and then…and then all this started happening.
I felt a surge of protectiveness towards Kira. What was she doing in there? And what was causing this chaos?
I pushed through the crowd, ready to intervene. But, as I stepped inside, I was met with a scene of utter confusion.
I walked into the bathroom, expecting to see Kira in the midst of a typical tantrum. But what I saw was far more intense. Dax was pulling his mate, Laura, up from the ground, while Kira seethed with rage, her eyes blazing with fury. I stared between the three of them, wondering what the hell had happened and why Kira looked like she had wrestled a tiger, Laura on the other hand looked like she barely survived after being hit by a truck. It was clear that the two of them fought and I felt a weird sense of pride knowing that Laura took the most hit and Kira threw the most punches
Just as I was about to ask, a man stepped forward, opening his mouth to explain. But before he could get a word out, Laura cut him off.
“Kira attacked me because she’s still in love with Dax, Laura said, her voice dripping with drama. “She can’t accept that he’s moved on and is happy with me now.”
I raised an eyebrow, sceptical. That didn’t sound like Kira at all. She wasn’t the type to get jealous or possessive.
“That’s not true,” Kira spat, her voice venomous. “I was just standing up for myself. Laura here was being completely disrespectful.”Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
I looked at Laura, who was smirking at Kira. “I was just telling the truth, Laura said. “You’re still in love with Dax, Kira Admit it.”
Kira’s face turned red with rage. “I am not in love with Dax,” she shouted. “I’m just sick of your lies and your manipulations.” Dax stepped forward, his hands raised, “Okay, let’s just calm down here. Yelling won’t make you right, Kira.”
But Fira was beyond reason. She was furious, and she wasn’t going to let anyone calm her down.
“You know exactly what’s going on, Dax,” Kira said, her voice cold. “You know exactly what she’s been doing.”
I was lost. What was going on? What had Laura been doing? And why was Kira so angry? I looked at Dax, hoping he could fill me in but he secured to be more interested in annoying Kira even more
“Why did you beat her up then If you know that you’re not in love with me, why did you hit her? Was it not out of jealousy!
“Someone needs to explain what’s going on here,” I said, trying to sound calm but I was actually really close to punching Dax
in the Tace.
“I think we need to talk about this,” Dax said, looking at Laura
Laura nodded, still smirking “Yes, let’s talk about how Kira can’t move on.”
I watched as Das started to ramble on about Laura being higher in rank than Kira and how she should be punished.
“You ought to be executed for this! You know that?” he barked.
But I didn’t say a word. I didn’t bother to apologize or try to mediate the situation. Instead, I just walked into the bathroom, my eyes scanning the room until I found Kira
She was standing by the sink, her arms crossed and a look of fury on her face. I could tell she was seething with anger, and I knew I had to get her out of there before things escalated further
I walked up to her and took her hand, pulling her away from the sink. “Come on, Kira,” I said, my voice low and calm. “Let’s get out of here.”
Kira didn’t resist. She just let me lead her out of the bathroom, away from the drama and chaos that was unfolding
As we walked out of the party, I could hear Dax’s voice behind us, still rambling on about rank and punishment. But I didn’t look back. I just kept walking, my hand holding Kira’s tightly
We didn’t say a word to each other until we were outside, standing in the cool night air. Then, Kira turned to me and asked, “Where are we going?”
I smiled. “Somewhere quiet. Somewhere we can talk without being interrupted.”
Kira nodded and we walked slowly, letting the cool air calm her the **f**k down.
Finally, we arrived at a small park, deserted and peaceful. We sat down on a bench, and I turned to Kira.
Kira sighed, running a hand through her hair. “I don’t know, Aston. I just feel so angry and hurt. Laura has no right to say those things to me.”
I sat there, trying to think of something to say, but my mind was blank. I didn’t know what to think or how to process. everything that had just happened. But before I could say anything, Kira started to speak.
“Aston, I need to clarify something,” she said, her voice soft and gentle. “Everything Laura said was a lie, I’m not in love with Dax anymore
I looked at her, trying to read her expression, but I couldn’t. I wanted to believe her, but a part of me was still sceptical.
Kira sighed and took my hand in hers. “Aston, I promise you, it’s not true. I was in love with Dax once, but that was a long time ago, I’ve moved on.”
I looked at her, searching for any sign of deception, but I couldn’t find any. But still, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that she was still in love with him, it was hard to get over a mate especially when they almost had a baby together.
“Kira, why did you react like that then?” I asked, my voice still laced with doubt. “Why did you get so angry?”
Kira’s expression changed, and for a moment. I saw a flash of anger in her eyes. “Because Laura was trying to provoke me, Aston. She was trying to get a rise out of me, and it worked”
I nodded, trying to understand. But I sull couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was more to it than that.
“Aston, I told you, I’m not in love with Dax anymore,” she said, her voice firm. “I’ve moved on
“Aston, I’m telling you the truth. I’m not in love with Dax.” She was trying really hard to prove it to me and it only made me realise that he doubt on my face must have been glaringly obvious for her to still keep trying to prove herself. I was doing my best to try to get rid of the look so we could move on to something else but I still could not help but wonder if her feelings were the reason why she didn’t feel jealous.
I was always doing my best to not go crazy when I was with her or without her. She was the only thing that I could think about, she was the main reason I was in this city and we could attend this event in the first place and not once did it ever occur to me that I could be alone in my feelings.
Not once did I think of the fact that she could still have feelings for the man who she carried a baby for, a baby she was ready to protect with her life. The man she spent most of her life with, had known and grown with. It wasn’t exactly the easiest moving on from that. Why hadn’t I thought of it?
She claimed not to be in love with him anymore and while that could be true or not, it didn’t necessarily mean that she was over him.
