Chapter 87 Button
Blanche widened her eyes in shock. The way Louis spoke just now was strange. "How could he be so gentle to me? Do I have hypochondriasis?" she wondered.
She blinked, as if contemplating something.
Louis suddenly retracted his hand that was supporting Blanche's head and coldly said, "Go back to sleep."
The next morning, just as morning dawned, Louis woke up first. Blanche was still sleeping soundly in her blanket.
The valley was quiet, perfect for sleeping.
When Louis pushed aside the blanket, his hand accidentally touched Blanche's waist. It felt soft, and with that touch, his big palm felt like it was being electrified, and the strange feeling seemed to spread throughout his body.
Even though she was asleep, her face was full of spirit, making people feel invigorated.
Louis frowned, feeling extremely uncomfortable. When did he become so sensitive?
When Blanche woke up, she didn't see anyone beside her. She sat up, looked around, and saw a pair of long legs at the entrance.
Hearing a noise behind him, Louis turned around to take a glance and then turned away in indifference.
Blanche got out of bed, put on her shoes, and neatly folded the blanket back into the closet. The two of them set off again.
The weather was good, and Louis and Blanche soon found the steep mountain path leading to the mountaintop.
However, the path was too steep. Blanche bit her lip and strained her neck because she had to keep looking up. "Is this really a path? It felt more like holes carved into a cliff," she complained in her head.
As they climbed up from the valley, they saw Sam and a pair of horses about to descend the mountain cliff to search for them.
When Sam saw them coming up, he was stunned for a moment before quickly walking forward.
"Mr. Herbart, Mrs. Herbart, we were just about to go down to find you."
Louis got furious as he looked at the captured criminal. He walked straight past Sam and kicked the man to the ground. Then he kicked the man two more times fiercely.
The criminal groaned in pain, sounding like a pig being slaughtered.
Blanche was stunned. Louis now looked fierce and ruthless, completely different from before.
Louis had discarded the custom-made jacket he had worn abroad and was now wearing a blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up, revealing his muscular wheat-colored arms.
Louis stepped on the criminal's head with a sneer, grinding it forcefully.
Seeing this, Blanche shivered. Louis seemed to be trampling not on a person but on an animal. His cold eyes and fierceness made everyone present tremble in fear.
The criminal on the ground had already bitten off a tooth due to the pain.
Louis withdrew his foot and sneered. "Spread the word to the casinos both at home and abroad that Wilburn has been exiled. It's time for them to collect their debts."
"Yes, sir." Sam nodded.
In recent years, Wilburn had been addicted to gambling and had accumulated countless debts. However, everyone knew that he had the support of the Herbart Group, so no one dared to hurt him.
But now that he had been exiled, things would be different. The casino owners would surely come after Wilburn to collect their debts.
Everyone knew that casino owners could do anything to collect debts, behaving in the most outrageous manner.
Louis glanced at the bloodstain on his shoe that had come from the criminal's vomit with disgust.
One of his subordinates immediately took out a silk handkerchief, squatted down, and wiped it clean for him. © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
Back at the hotel, they were ready to prepare for their return journey.
While packing her things in her room and making the bed, Blanche noticed a delicate button on the sheets.
Blanche picked up the button, her eyes widened in shock. The clothes she was wearing didn't have this kind of button. It must have been left by the man from the previous night.
At that moment, a pair of long legs walked in. "Are you done packing? It's time to go."
Blanche tightened her grip on the button and hid it in her purse. It felt like a rusty nail pricking her skin. She didn't want anyone to know about the embarrassing incident that had happened to her.
"What are you looking at?"
Suddenly realizing that Louis had come to her room, Blanche wondered how he got in and why he kept looking around as if searching for something.
Louis turned around, standing upright with his back facing Blanche, blocking her view. He raised his right wrist and touched the empty cuff.
He had long noticed that the button on his cuff was missing. He did not drop it under the cliff but before he went to the orchard to find Blanche.
After thinking it over last night, he reasoned that the highest possibility was that he had dropped it in Blanche's room, more likely on her bed. That night, he had slept wearing only a shirt.
Louis glanced around, but there was no button on the floor. The bed had already been made, so he couldn't tell if it was on it or not.
"Never mind. Judging from the watchful look on Blanche's face, she probably hasn't discovered that the button is mine," he thought to himself.
Withdrawing his eyes, Louis decisively said, "It's fine. If you don't want to walk back, let's go downstairs and get in the car quickly."
Louis turned around and walked away, while Blanche frowned and put the button into her purse.
