Chapter 32 The Missing Pills

The room was plunged into darkness. After turning off the light, Jason headed for the bed. With a rustling sound, the bed sank slightly as he slid in. Subconsciously, Rejoyla's body tensed up.

Jason threw his arm around Rejoyla's waist and rested his head on her shoulder with a contented sigh.

But Rejoyla felt nervous and didn't dare to move at all. At this moment, her mind was in utter chaos!

After a long while, Rejoyla heard Jason's steady and deep breathing-he was motionless. Rejoyla cautiously moved her arm, and thankfully, Jason didn't react. She began to slowly inch her way out of his embrace, but just as she thought she had succeeded and was about to smile in relief, a sudden force pulled her back into his arms. Her heart almost jumped out of her chest! After waiting for another while, she realized that she had been overly worried. Jason hadn't woken up; he was merely used to holding her.

Humph, she didn't want his embrace at all!

Rejoyla tried to move again, and just as she was about to succeed, Jason still drew her back into his embrace. This cycle repeated itself over and over again... Material © NôvelDrama.Org.

After several failed attempts, she grew suspicious that Jason was feigning sleep!

She pinched his arm so hard that her fingers became sore, but he remained motionless. Was he really used to holding her?

Rejoyla yawned as exhaustion overwhelmed her. With a sigh of resignation, she nestled her head against Jason's arm and soon fell asleep. Unbeknownst to her, Jason opened his eyes, gazed at her tear-stained face, and stroked her swollen eyelids softly...

The next morning, Rejoyla woke up to find that Jason had already left. She let out a sigh of relief, as she didn't know how to face him in a sober state and she was afraid that she would slap him in the face. If that was to happen, she and Jacquelyn would be driven out of this family. As much as she would have welcomed the freedom, the thought of Jacquelyn's possible retaliation discouraged her.

"Ugh, I'm such a coward. All I can do is talk big. No wonder Jacquelyn describes me as a paper tiger, but in fact, I'm not a tiger in any form!"

Just then, Jacquelyn pushed open the door and walked in. Upon seeing the tear stains on Rejoyla's face, she assumed that it was because they had argued yesterday. Her anger dissipated, and she sat down on the edge of the bed, poking Rejoyla's forehead with her index finger. "You cried all night? No mature adults would argue with their mothers! Anyway, let's not forget about yesterday and focus on today's date. I'll go with you and keep an eye on you, so you won't run away! "

Jacquelyn was determined to closely monitor Rejoyla today, even if Burton was feeling unwell. Otherwise, Rejoyla would surely mess up the whole thing.

Rejoyla agreed weakly; she didn't bother arguing with Jacquelyn.

Jacquelyn was surprised by Rejoyla's obedience, which saved her from lengthy persuasion. With a look at the frail and disheveled figure in front of her, she decided not to push Rejoyla too hard, or it might cause adverse effects. After thinking for a moment, she headed downstairs to get some ice herself, so that the servants wouldn't see Rejoyla's face and gossip about it.

"Put the ice on your eyes. Look at you-you're in no way like a decent woman!" Rejoyla rolled her eyes at Jacquelyn and placed the ice against her eyes. The sudden coldness refreshed her mind. She quickly removed the ice and stared at Jacquelyn with her red eyes. "What's the background of the man you want to introduce to me? What does he do? How influential is his family? Can it rival the Sterling family?"

Jacquelyn beamed and held Rejoyla's face, landing a kiss there. "Oh, my deal Rejoyla, you finally understand what's right for you. I'm glad you're listening to me now, and it's not too late. Don't worry-this man is the grandson of Old Mr. Sterling's friend. Although his family is not as good as the Sterling family, it is well known in the Capital City. If you marry him, you'll enjoy a life of luxury. It took me a long time to persuade Old Mr. Sterling to agree to this, so you better not mess it up! Otherwise, I won't forgive you!"

Rejoyla furrowed her brows as she learned that the man's family was inferior to Jason's, but it was indeed hard to find one with a similar status in the Capital City. Now that this man's father was a friend of Old Mr. Sterling, the two families could be close to each other. If she married the man, Jason might give up troubling her!

She clenched her fists, determined to do whatever it took to get rid of Jason!

Jacquelyn was satisfied with Rejoyla's reaction and held her fists kindly. "All right, let's start by reducing your swelling. Then, I'll take you to get a new look. We won't go to the same place as yesterday; I've made an appointment with another one." The shop yesterday seemed ominous- Burton had felt unwell right after their visit to the place.

"Well, what about this afternoon?"

"Rejoyla, you just said you would go!" Jacquelyn raised her brows, suspecting that Rejoyla was going back on her word again.

"I have something to do this morning. Don't worry-I've made up my mind to find a good partner and won't stand you up. Tell me the address, and I'll go there."

Love was nonsense! Because of love, she had almost become a spinster. She didn't need love now; all she wanted was to get rid of Jason as soon as possible.

"Really? Are you cheating me again?" Jacquelyn was skeptical, especially considering Rejoyla's history of unreliability.

"I swear to you, I'm not lying this time!" Rejoyla said firmly.

Jacquelyn finally believed Rejoyla's words. She gave Rejoyla some instructions before heading downstairs.

Rejoyla stayed in the room to reduce the swelling around her eyes. Although it appeared slightly red, she could explain this as the result of poor sleep.

After checking herself in the mirror, she finally went downstairs.

Ingrid and Hillary were sitting at the dining table. Seeing Rejoyla come downstairs, they just ignored her. Having learned from the trouble last time, Rejoyla decided not to engage with them and pretended as if they hadn't been there. After having a servant serve the breakfast, she started to enjoy it.

Ingrid had a glance at Rejoyal and seemed to think of something. Suddenly, she asked, "Miss Lynn, did you leave your room last night?"

"Oh yes, I was hungry and got up for some food," Rejoyla admitted. After all, she couldn't hide the fact that the food had been taken from the kitchen. But why was Ingrid asking this? Had she seen Rejoyla with Jason? Rejoyla clutched the fork as she broke out in a cold sweat on her forehead.

Hearing what Rejoyla said, Ingrid bit her lip and looked around-there were no servants around, and only Hillary was beside her. Being close to Hillary, Ingrid didn't mind sharing anything with her. After a while of hesitation, Ingrid asked Rejoyla, "Miss Lynn, did you see anyone at that time?"

"What do you mean?" Perplexed, Rejoyla tilted her head. Was Ingrid trying to draw something out of her? Had Ingrid seen her with Jason or not?

"I-I lost something yesterday and wonder if you saw anyone suspicious?"

Rejoyla suddenly thought of the contraceptives that Jason had given her. Had he stolen them from Ingrid? Rejoyla started studying Ingrid, whose gentle features and timid eyes suggested her obedience. Rejoyla had thought that the contraceptive owner was Georgina or Hillary; how could it be such a soft woman as Ingrid?

It might be a coincidence!

"What did you lose?"

Ingrid's cheeks flushed as she stuttered, "No-nothing important. I'm just curious. No need to worry!"

Her memory of the previous night was foggy. Affected by alcohol, she couldn't remember if she had bought a bottle of contraceptives. She thought she had, but it hadn't been in her bag this morning. While she was confused, she heard the servants talking about someone who sneaked into the kitchen late at night for a snack.

She instantly became suspicious, and her first targets were Jacquelyn and Rejoyla, who had just moved in. Jacquelyn was unlikely to be the thief since she stayed with Burton. Rejoyla and Joana were more plausible suspects.

Hearing that Rejoyla admit she had left her room last night, Ingrid naturally wanted to inquire further.

For sure, Rejoyla couldn't say she had taken Ingrid's contraceptives, or she would have to explain why she needed them. She decided to throw the pills away after she came back. "Well, I didn't notice anyone. My room is on the second floor, not the same one as yours."

Ingrid stared at Rejoyla suspiciously. "Did you really not see anyone?"

Her intuition, which always turned out right, told her that Rejoyla had something to do with the theft, but she had no evidence. She was not as stupid as Georgina and wouldn't forcibly search Rejoyla's room. After all, Rejoyla had caused them trouble upon moving in. Considering all the factors, Ingrid decided to "peacefully" solve the thing.

"If you lost something, don't hesitate to tell the butler or call the police. A thorough investigation will help find out the thief and put my mind at ease. Home security is a serious issue that needs to be addressed."

Rejoyla's expression was so deceptive that Ingrid had no choice but to suppress her suspicion. After all, she had no guts to say what she had lost.

Rejoyla was in no mood to slowly enjoy her breakfast. She finished it quickly and left the house.

Seeing Ingrid staring at Rejoyla's back, Hillary suggested with a chuckle, "If you're so suspicious of her, why not find a way to search her room?"
