Chapter 30: Charlotte, Your Life Belongs to Me
With a loud crash, the glass smashed on the floor and into pieces.
Lawrence frowned at his empty palms as his eyelids jumped for no apparent reason.
His gaze scanned the tightly shut door. She haven’t come back.
While thinking of her unusual antics, Lawrence felt more and more uneasy. He pulled of the plug of his
charger and switched on his phone to make a call.
The familiar ringtone went on for a while.
Just when Lawrence felt like his patience had ran out and was going to hang up, Charlotte’s faint voice
sounded at the other end.
“It’s me.”
It sounded like she was driving as Lawrence could make out the wheezing sound of wind that
described a half-open car window. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
All of a sudden, he felt his heart skip a beat.
“Charlotte, where are you now? Why are you driving a car?”
What answered him was the sound of wind getting stronger and stronger.
An uneasy feeling crept up to him and with his palms tightening the grip of the phone, he raised his
voice, “Charlotte, I’m talking to you!”
The car was speeding along the road, through a lush forest and stopped short just hundreds of meters
away from a cliff.
The sound of wind blowing stopped.
Charlotte’s strangely hollow voice came again, “Lawrence, you know what? Just a moment ago, my
father and brother has died.”
“Charlotte, what the hell are your plot? Aren’t your father and brother staying overseas at the
moment…”
Lawrence couldn’t finish his sentence as his gaze accidentally fell on a television screen. When he
understood the news being reported, he immediately froze.
“Breaking news, an elder and a young man has driven…”
A surge ran through his body.
They were… Charlotte’s father and brother!
Lawrence shot up from the sofa and glued his eyes in shock at the television screen. He uttered each
word with force, “Charlotte, what have you been hiding from me? How many things that I still don’t
know about!”
At this moment, Lawrence couldn’t tell whether he was furious or nervous, and before Charlotte could
answer, he marched to the lobby and opened the door and rushed outside.
“Charlotte, you told me that you would wait for me and told me everything personally. The one thing I
hate most in my life is people who are not punctual. Now, I am back at home. I’ll give you half an hour,
you have to appear in front of my eyes!”
He rushed to the elevator, and his hand was strangely trembling while he was trying to press the
button.
“Wait me there. I will come to you. If you want a chance, I will give it to you now!”
The next moment, Charlotte’s soft voice came through the receiver.
“No need anymore. My father and brother are dead. Everything is meaningless.” So does her life.
“You dare?”
A black Bentley sped out like the wind. Lawrence gripped the steering wheel hard and with his eyes
bloodshot, his forehead had veins bulging violently.
“Charlotte, your life belongs to me! You owe me too much. I’ll take back everything little by little from
you. Without my permission, you…”
Charlotte laughed lightly.
“Since I owe you so much, how about I pay you back with my life?”
She gripped the steering wheel equally hard and levelled her gaze on the edge of the cliff. She
imagined her father and brother plunged off the edge with despair while she shut her eyes.
“Lance, everything should end now. I am really tired after all those years.”
