Chapter 38: Confronting Toughness with Toughness Would Be Futile
Chapter 38: Confronting Toughness with Toughness Would Be Futile
"No, it's...no." Virginie didn't know how to continue, so she simply asked another question, "Is your
relationship with Fleur really that close?"
"You don't need to know that much." Olivier was at the head of his bed, his fur-stained clothes in the
trash bin.
It was the clothes that matched with Fleur's.
"It's late. I'll have Raoul send you back later."
"Mm." Virginie nodded sweetly. Olivier was sweet to her as always. Fleur was just a minor hiccup, she
thought.
Olivier still liked her.
Virginie enjoyed her glee for a while after hanging up. Only then did she suddenly realized something.
She never said where she was and neither did Olivier ask. How could he send Raoul over if he never
asked where she was?
Just then the police arrived.
"Miss Lopez, Miss Leroy has been bailed."
"What?"
"She was bailed and is now released from holding. Someone will fetch her back."
Virginie's breath grew uneven with panic. What's going on? Who's coming to pick Fleur up? She
thought in a hurry while running out. She saw Raoul and two bodyguards in the hall.
And Fleur too, who had just exited the cell.
"Raoul Girard, what is this?!" Didn't he come to pick me up? Why is he picking Fleur up?! Virginie
yelled internally.
"I'm sorry, Miss Lopez. Mr. Martinez asked me to send you home while Miss Leroy will be escorted
back by them." Raoul gestured at the bodyguards.
"What?!" Virginie cried loudly. She could not believe Olivier was the one who bailed Fleur out.
She had thought Olivier would not help at all!
Moreover, Virginie had promised Fleur to let her club staff go. Now that Fleur had been bailed, wouldn't
that mean...Virginie had lost all her bargaining chips?!
"I'm sorry. I have no right to question Mr. Martinez's orders," Raoul said.
Virginie's tasted blood as she bit into her lip. She had just been enjoying the feeling of being pampered
by Olivier when this happened!
"Virginie Lopez," Fleur sneered. "Did you really think all that news was false? Having that kind of
information wiped out so soon not just means hating to see it, but also risk of revealing the truth."
"I am in fact his woman. How could he have me sit in jail? Master Olivier would never let that stain his
reputation."
Raoul looked at her with admiration. Fleur was too smart.
Mr. Martinez's original words were: "Get Fleur out of the police station before midnight. My wife can't go
to jail, and my grandmother cannot see her granddaughter-in-law have such a thing staining a
reputation. Don't let the police leave any records."
Mr. Martinez knew fully well what Fleur had in mind.
Fleur knew exactly what Mr. Martinez's plans were.
"What's kind of relationship do you share? You've barely known one another!"
"The kind of relationship that seeps through bone. Plus, knowing one another for years cannot
compare with a couple hours of intimacy. Do you understand?"
"Fleur Leroy!" Virginie cried, unhinged. "You're were scheming! I don't know what dirty trick you used to
have Olivier bail you out, that's why you were so confident in taking responsibility! Even persuading me
to release your staff! You...you rat!"
"Didn't you give me this opportunity?" Fleur was steady and calm compared to Virginie. "You were so
impatient to lash out at me that you got people to cause trouble at my club. I was just thinking about
how you would exact your plot and how to deal with it, but I did not expect..."
Fleur smiled mockingly. "Mr. Martinez already said you can't make a big fuss about this, but you just
had to pull this stunt. What tantrum are you throwing?" She was not afraid of making a scene at all, in
fact she wanted one to happen.
Those two photos were a stroke of genius, forming the essence of this entire situation.
However it was not just Virginie who accelerated those photos' appearance. Olivier played a role too in
forbidding her to reveal herself.
Between two oppressing forces, there would always be a beam of hope and chance in the middle.
......
Fleur got on the car.
She leaned against the backseat, two bodyguards sitting in front. She calmly observed the outside
traffic on the trip back.
The Oriental Estate was quiet. Even Lulu was sleeping soundly in her room.
Fleur petted Lulu, who nuzzled against her hand while snoring. It remained fast asleep.
Fleur got up five minutes later and went to the neighbouring bedroom. A clean, masculine fragrance
wafted through upon opening the door.
Olivier must have fallen asleep, with it being so dark. Fleur deftly sat on the bedside.
She groped around for his body, then leaned in. Before she could speak her wrist was gripped tight, as
if being held down by concrete.
It hurt.
The lights came on instantly. Olivier glared at her coldly, saying in a sharp voice, "How dare you climb
into my bed after setting me up?"
"I'm here to make amends."
"Obviously you're not all aces in that department. How many times have you 'tried to make amends' in
these past three days?"
Fleur glanced at him but said nothing.
Olivier sat up, which only increased his imposing air. "Not bad out there, that scheme of yours. I
originally planned to dig up your background, but now I've become your alleged safety net. It seems I
dug my own grave.“
His eyes filled with overwhelming venom. "How dare you, Fleur?"
Fleur looked down, playing a fragile role. "I had no choice. You and Miss Lopez forced me to a corner,
so I could only find a way out myself." She protected herself and exposed them instead.
"When did you take the pictures?"
"I took the first one when you were casually sitting on the sofa. I thought it was a good angle. It was not
intended for anything. As for Master Lopez's cameo, that was accidental too. The second photo was Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
taken on purpose." After her manager called Fleur had immediately began strategising.
Fleur took a look at his gloomy face and shuffled closer.
If Olivier was tough, she would be soft. Confronting toughness with toughness would be a futile move.
"I know I'm in the wrong." She flexed her right wrist which he had gripped. It hurt really bad, especially
with the wound on her right hand.
"I couldn't just watch you two ruin my club. Don't you think I'm the victim in all this? Master Lopez came
to my club at five o'clock in the afternoon when the club was still closed. His intentions are obvious."
"There would be very few people around at that time. If I had gone to see him, he would have tried to
ruin me. To put it lightly, he would have taken advantage of me. In reality, rape would have been on the
table."
Olivier remained silent throughout her speech, eyes cold.
She had even learned to manipulate her words.
"Besides, I really don't have a safety net or someone secretly protecting me," Fleur said softly, her
voice portraying helplessness. "If I had one, how could things end up like this? We never start using
force unless someone does first. We only do it if all else fails."
