In the Face of Flames
Celine’s POV :
The maids’ panicked voices echoed through the palace corridors, their words slicing through the air like shards of shattered glass. “The Queen’s chamber is on fire! She’s trapped inside!”
My heart skipped a beat as the words registered in my mind. Without a moment’s hesitation, I turned to Alpha Tyrion, my eyes wide with fear and urgency. “We have to go, Alpha Tyrion! We can’t let the Queen perish in the flames.”
His expression mirrored my own, a mixture of determination and worry etched across his face. Without uttering a single word, we sprinted down the hallways, our footsteps echoing in sync as we raced towards the source of the inferno.
As we reached the Queen’s chamber, the sight that greeted us was nothing short of devastation. Flames danced and licked at the walls, consuming everything in their path with a ravenous hunger. Smoke billowed out, filling the air with acrid fumes that burned my lungs.
“How could something like this happen with all the guards around? ” He asked the maids.
All the couples and other wolves of the pack had come out and everyone watched the horror unfolding before our eyes.
Alpha Tyrion and I exchanged a brief glance, our eyes reflecting a shared determination. We had to act swiftly.
“Get more water here! Everyone will help. ” He told the guards.NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.
With the help of the palace guards, we grabbed buckets of water, desperately trying to douse the flames that threatened to consume the Queen’s chamber.
But the fire raged on, unyielding and relentless. It seemed to mock our feeble attempts to extinguish it, growing stronger, fiercer with each passing second. Panic rose within me as I realized our efforts were fruitless, and time was slipping through our fingers like grains of sand.
“The Luna’s life is in danger! More than half of the chamber is already burned down. ” Beta Remy said.
In that moment of desperation, it was Alpha Tyrion who made the decision that would forever change our lives. His eyes locked onto mine, a flicker of unwavering resolve shining within them. Without a word, he shifted, his body transforming into his magnificent wolf form.
“Alpha… ” I whispered.
I watched in awe and terror as his fur bristled, his muscles bulging with raw strength. With a mighty leap, he bounded through the engulfed doorway, disappearing into the flames. My heart clenched with a mixture of anguish and hope as I prayed for his safety, for his ability to navigate the treacherous inferno.
“No! Tyrion! ” Ava screamed behind me.
Time stood still as the fire continued to rage, its crackling fury drowning out all other sounds. I paced anxiously, my hands clasped together in desperate supplication. Tears welled in my eyes as I whispered fervent prayers for Alpha Tyrion’s protection, for his safe return.
‘What’s wrong? What’s taking so long? ‘ Belinay growled.
Minutes stretched into eternity, and just when despair threatened to consume me, a figure emerged from the smoke. It was Alpha Tyrion, his wolf form intact, a beacon of strength amidst the chaos. He carried the Queen in his jaws, her limp form cradled tenderly.
Something cried in me when I saw the Queen’s lifeless body. She was a gentle and kind soul who had always advised me to do the right thing. But I saw her moving and coughing which meant she was somewhat fine after the accident.
Relief washed over me in a tidal wave, my knees threatening to buckle beneath the weight of the emotions coursing through me. The guards rushed forward, taking the Queen from Alpha Tyrion’s protective grasp, whisking her away to safety.
“The Queen needs the doctors now! ” Beta Remy announced to the guards.
Alpha Tyrion approached me, his gaze filled with exhaustion and unspoken gratitude. I collapsed into his embrace, my tears mingling with his fur as we held each other tightly, a silent acknowledgment of the dangers we had faced and the bond that had carried us through.
“You saved her! Are you okay? ” I asked, kissing his forehead. It was so much for me to comprehend the whole situation. He was burnt a little with the flames and his eyes began to close on its own. His sight scared me when he dropped his weight on me.
“Please, get aside. We will carry him. ” The guards said as they helped Alpha to get back to his chamber. Ava ran behind but Alpha Kristian stopped her out of sheer embarrassment he faced by everyone.
“Alpha Tyrion is really brave. ” the maids whispered to each other.
I took a deep breath and waited outside as the doctor examined him and gave him medicines. The aftermath of the fire left the palace shrouded in a heavy silence, a stark contrast to the chaos that had engulfed us just moments before. As I walked in, I saw Alpha Tyrion exhausted from his heroic efforts, laying on a makeshift cot, his eyes closed in much-needed rest. I watched over him, my heart swelling with admiration and gratitude for his bravery.
“You scared me, Alpha. You shouldn’t have just jumped in the fire. ” I said, wiping my tears.
As I leaned over to brush a gentle kiss upon his forehead, a sudden grip on my arm startled me. I turned to find Lycan Calle, his eyes glinting with a twisted sense of satisfaction. My blood ran cold as his words slithered through the air, dripping with menace.
“If you truly care for Tyrion’s safety, you will do as I say,” Calle hissed, his grip tightening on my arm.
Anger ignited within me, fueled by the audacity of his threats. “You dare to threaten me? After all we have been through?” I seethed, my voice trembling with a mixture of fury and defiance.
Calle’s lips curled into a menacing smile, his voice a venomous whisper. “Oh, my dear Celine, this is just the beginning. If you want to prevent further accidents, accidents that may claim the lives of those you hold dear, then you will listen to me.”
My heart hammered against my ribcage, a mixture of fear and determination coursing through my veins. I knew I had to tread carefully, to keep my loved ones safe. Reluctantly, I nodded, my voice barely above a whisper. “What do you want?”
Calle’s eyes gleamed with a sick satisfaction as he revealed his twisted demand. “Tonight, under the cover of darkness, meet me in the abandoned chambers of the palace. If you ever want to see more pictures of your mother or prevent harm from befalling those you cherish, you will come alone.”
My breath caught in my throat, a knot of apprehension forming within me. The allure of more information about my mother’s disappearance tugged at my heart, while the need to protect Alpha Tyrion and the pack weighed heavily upon my conscience. It was a dangerous game, one that I had no choice but to play.
Scared yet motivated, I met Calle’s gaze with a steely resolve. “I will come,” I conceded, my voice laced with a mixture of defiance and desperation. “But if you harm anyone, if you betray me, I swear I will make you regret it.”
Calle’s smile widened, a sinister glimmer dancing in his eyes. “Very well, my dear Celine. Be prepared to discover truths that may shatter your world. The abandoned chambers await you.”
As he released his grip on my arm and melted into the shadows, I was left with a whirlwind of emotions. Fear gnawed at the edges of my mind, but a flicker of hope burned within me. I would face the darkness, confront the secrets that lay hidden within the abandoned chambers, and do whatever it took to protect those I held dear.
With the weight of the impending meeting heavy on my shoulders, I turned my gaze back to Alpha Tyrion. He stirred slightly in his sleep, a testament to his resilience and strength. As I leaned down to press a tender kiss against his temple, I silently vowed to unravel the mysteries that had plagued my past, no matter the cost.
