Chapter 54 Holding Her Accountable?
“Ranita!”
Perhaps he had been waiting too long, but Brendon knocked on the door with an echo in his voice. “Are you… okay?”
Ranita’s ankle was swollen and she hadn’t made a sound since entering the bathroom, causing Brendon to furrow his brow.
“I’ll be right out.” Ranita took a deep breath and opened the bathroom door to face Brendon’s cold black eyes. She smiled slightly and asked, “Are you here to settle scores with me?”
“I did push Shannon away, but I swear it was an accident. I didn’t mean to hurt her.” After speaking, Ranita looked straight at him.
For some reason, Ranita felt heartbroken as if she were waiting for judgment.
“Shannon saw a doctor; her ankle is just sprained and not serious.” After pausing for a moment, Brendon sighed before asking softly, “Do you have any hostility towards Shannon?”Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
“You’ve had several conflicts with her.”
As love rivals of each other, how could they not have hostility? Strictly speaking though Shannon had more animosity towards her than vice versa.
“So are you going to make me apologize again this time?” Ranita looked away from him while speaking in a low voice that carried some chilliness that couldn’t be detected easily.
Silence spread between them until Brendon spoke up after a while, “Given recent events, I want us to talk properly! I believe that Shannon wouldn’t deliberately frame you, but having followed me for three years, I also understand your character. You don’t have any grudges against or grievances with Shannon. I really can’t understand why you would target her.”
“Give me one reason.”
So in Brendon’s eyes, Ranita was still the one who was wronged.
Although Brendon was being rational this time, Ranita still felt wronged because she wasn’t the favored one.
“I wasn’t targeting Shannon,” Ranita shook her head. “Whether you believe it or not.”
“Ranita…” Obviously, Brendon wasn’t convinced by this answer.
“Mr. Stuart, I need to rest now. Please leave! Otherwise, I’ll call for medical help!” Ranita didn’t want to continue the conversation anymore. What was the point? Brendon’s scale had always been tipped towards Shannon.
Ranita lay on the hospital bed and tossed and turned without being able to sleep.
“Little baby, your biological father is really not a good person! That’s why I won’t let you recognize him and don’t be mad at me.”
Ranita touched her still-flat belly and sighed deeply.
Suddenly, she felt a pulsation in her fingertips that seemed like a pulse – very shallow but Ranita could feel it!
It was amazing and made Ranita widen her eyes in surprise.
Was this what they called fetal movement? Curiously, she touched it again but the pulsation seemed to have disappeared. Immediately, Ranita opened up Dylan’s various pregnancy knowledge that he sent her earlier and saw that obvious fetal movements only occur after four or five months of pregnancy.
She realized how silly she was since the baby was only as small as a yellow bean; how could there be any fetal movements?
Suddenly an idea struck her: She placed her fingers on her belly tentatively then said aloud, “Your biological father is really not a good person!”
Huh?! Her eyes widened again!
Oh my god! She actually felt something!
“Your biological father has an ugly face like a turtle with bad hair or he might even be just another jerk!” As soon as these words were spoken out loud by Ranitia herself – lo-and-behold -the baby inside responded with another strong kick!
Oh! Ranita was overjoyed! She even had a feeling of triumph. Her child was indeed on her side!
“Good job, you’re mommy’s good baby. Mommy will find you a rich and handsome daddy in the future. We don’t need Brendon!”
