Chapter 27: Mary
I followed Kade quietly to the Queen’s suite, my mind racing with the events that had occurred today. Nikolai had called me his mate, what did that entail and why had the Beta wolf stated that I was a weakness to Nikolai, would I become a target for his enemies. Was my life in more danger now than it had previously been. Would whatever relationship, I had with Nikolai differ from what it was currently.
When I reached the Queen’s quarters, I was greeted by a shriek, my heart skipped a beat, thinking that someone had been injured. “Mary.” Nevaeh screamed engulfing me in her arms.“ I thought something terrible had happened to you, Kade had said something had occurred in the King’s chambers and that his presence was needed and when he dropped me off in the Queen’s room and you weren’t here…” Nevaeh sobbed,“ I thought, that perhaps that Nikolai had lost control of his rage, due to your obtuseness of behaving, and he’d killed you.” She continued to sob and she pulled me into a tight bone crushing hug.
I grimaced my body still battered and bruised from my attempt to fight off Beta Daniels, but I didn’t want to worry Nevaeh more, so I bared through the pain. Kade must have noticed my distress because he commanded Nevaeh to release me from her death grip.
“Nevaeh, that is enough.” Kade commanded, his tone sharp, but laced with kindness, and perhaps some fondness towards his blood slave.
Nevaeh blushed two shades of red, pulling away from me. “Sorry,” she mumbled, looking up at me, “I got carried away from my worry for you, and I didn’t realize I was causing you more pain.” Nevaeh still had tears in her eyes, as she turned towards Kade, her eyes sweeping over his body.
“Nevaeh, why don’t you help..” Kade paused for a moment as he tried to recall my name, “Mary, into a change of new clothes. I will bring you a bowl of hot water from the bathroom and you can help her clean
up as well.”
My heart warmed towards Kade, at his kindness to help me recover from the tragedy that I had just
endured. Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“Yes, Sir.” Nevaeh responded, turning towards my closet, pulling me along with her, I couldn’t help but notice how Kade’s gaze had trailed over Nevaeh’s body, before he looked away and made his way towards the bathroom quickly using his vampire speed. Just as Nevaeh had helped me pull the remnants of my tattered dress from my body, I heard a quiet knock on the closet door, signaling Kade had returned with the water. Nevaeh opened the door slightly, carrying in a small tub of water, a loofah, and my lavender scented body wash.
“Nevaeh, I need a few minutes alone. Do you mind waiting outside?” I asked, feeling myself becoming overwhelmed as my adrenaline rush started to wear down.
Nevaeh contemplated my request for a few seconds before responding, “Of course Mary, let me know if you need anything.” Nevaeh responded, walking out of the closet, gently shutting the door behind her.
I could hear kade and Nevaeh’s mumbled voices outside of the closet, but I chose to tune them out, as I dipped the loofah in the hot water and attempted to scrub myself clean, trying to rid my body of the reminder of the Beta’s touch and his lust filled eyes. I scrubbed and scrubbed until my skin was raw and the water ran cold, finally when my skin couldn’t take anymore of the abuse from the loofah, I stopped and grabbed the towel that had been folded up beside the tub of water and dried my body. While my skin was clean and no longer showed a reminder of the blood bath that had occurred in Nikolai’s room, I still felt dirty, my mind on repeat of the night’s events and Beta Daniels touching my body. I quickly pulled on a loose shirt and a pair of sweats, ignoring my undergarments. My body hurt too much to even think of putting a bra on and I didn’t have any clean underwear in the closet. When I walked out of the closet, I was shocked by the sight of Nevaeh in Kade’s arms as he rubbed comforting circles on her back, his lips pressed against her forehead. From what little I knew about Vampires and Blood Slaves, this wasn’t
normal. Usually vampires only viewed blood slaves as food, and that was it. I cleared my throat to let my presence be known, causing Kade and Nevaeh to quickly pull apart, Nevaeh’s face flushing red, and Kade face looking guilty like he’d been caught in an act of treason. From what little I knew of Kade and from what little I had seen I knew he was different than most vampires and that he’d be the perfect one to ask the questions that had been racing through my mind since Nikolai had came into the room tonight calling me his mate.
“Err… Kade.” I asked turning my full attention to the vampire, Nikolai’s best friend. “What does “mate” mean to a vampire, and would being someone’s mate, but the other person at risk?” I asked nervously twiddling my fingers. Kade’s face paled as he looked at me, trying to read my emotions. I took a deep breath, exhaling slowly to calm my nerves before I proceeded. “Because when King Nikolai returned to his room, his vampire side took control and roared at the werewolf Beta, to get off of his mate, and then later in the evening, Daniels told Nikolai that it was too late, and that he’d already informed the Alpha of Nikolai’s greatest weakness
Kade stood up from where he was sitting on my bed and began to pace back and forth, “Oh this is bad,” he mumbled quietly. “this is really really bad.”
As Kade muttered to himself, I turned to Nevaeh and realized her expression was similar to Kade’s her face turning pale compared to her normal bronzed skin color. I felt my heartbeat increase, as well as my breathing as my body went into full blown panic. I tried counting backwards from ten, breathing in and out slowly, but I couldn’t stop the panic attack, that was slowly taking over my body. I could feel the darkness clouding my vision as my body swayed back and forth, before I fell, I felt the warm embrace of Kade’s arms, and a loud growl before I passed out.
When I cracked open my eyes my senses were overwhelmed with the familiar scent of sandalwood, laced with a fresh earthy scent. I opened my eyes the rest of the way and was greeted by Nikolai his faced laced with concern and worry.
“Are you alright,” he asked, his hand lifting and caressing my face. I tried to lift myself up, but my body felt weak, as it always did after a full blown panic attack. Nikolai helped me into a sitting position, placing pillows behind me to support my weight, before gently resting his hands on my leg.
“Yes.” I responded, my body calming by his nearness. I quickly scanned over his body making sure he had no injuries. How long was I out for?” I asked taking in his clean appearance, looking as if he
hadn’t just participated in a bloody battle.
“Just a few hours.” He stated, his face to laced with concern as he stared at me.
“I’m fine Nikolai, I promise,” I responded, not bothering with his title, “I’ve had panic attacks before, normally I am able to calm myself down, but I think I was overwhelmed by the events from today.”
“Kade reported that you passed out shortly after you inquired about Mates.” Nikolai replied looking at me as if his eyes were looking into my soul. I fidgeted nervously, Nikolai reached out a grabbed my hands. “It’s okay to be curious.” He said gently holding my hand rubbing the back of my hand as if to sooth me. I relaxed into his embrace.
“When your vampire side took over, you called me your mate, and I was wondering what a mate meant to your kind.” I responded, looking down adverting his gaze. “I’ve heard of mate bonds with other supernaturals, but I didn’t think vampires had mates.”
Nikolai removed his hand from mine and gently pulled on my chin, forcing me to look into his eyes. “I didn’t know vampires had mate’s either, but from the first time I scented you, I felt this connection to you, as if you belonged to me; mind, body, and soul.” He stated before leaning in and placing a gentle kiss on my lips. I let out a soft sigh my lips tingling at the touch of his.
Nikolai deepened the kiss upon hearing my sigh. His tongue gaining entrance into my mouth, performing an erotic dance with mine. He gently leaned into me, wrapping his hand around my waist as he laid me
gently down on the bed, his body lowering into mine providing me with warmth. I felt tingles everywhere he touched me and my body craved more of his touch. He pulled away from my mouth, looking into my eyes, waiting for me to respond to his unasked question.
“Nikolai,” I whispered, “Please, I need you, help me forget tonight,”
Nikolai let out a throaty growl before his eyes flashing between cerulean and red, before he lowered himself back on top of me, his lips once again meeting mine.
