Chapter 79
Chapter 79
Janice was hustling around the kitchen, preparing dinner.
Cordelia was all mopey and down in the dumps, so she spoke to Barney, trying to excuse herself.
"Grandpa, I'm not feeling too hot. I think I'll just head upstairs."
"What's up with Della?" Barney asked Ronan.
Just the two of them were left at the table.
Suddenly, Ronan felt a sort of gloom hanging over the dinner.
"Work trouble." He said.
"Can't you help her out?" Barney reprimanded Ronan.
Ronan didn't say it, but he was the cause of Cordelia's setback.
"Go make Cordelia some pasta." Barney instructed him.
"Grandpa!" Ronan protested adamantly.
"Ronan!" Clearly, Grandpa wasn't like Ronan's subordinates, who would quiver at his glare. "Just do it.
I'm watching you. What if Della starves?"
With no other choice, Ronan went into the kitchen and cooked up a plate of pasta for Cordelia,
complete with a fried egg.
If it were the old days, he would never stoop to doing such a thing.
But this time, he even carefully picked out the yolk.
He had Janice deliver it to Cordelia.
Cordelia was sitting at her desk, reading. She didn't bring back Jamie's notes or the book he had
recommended, fearing it would stir up unnecessary drama at home. She only brought accounting
textbooks home.
But at this moment, she couldn't focus on anything and was just staring blankly at the book.
Janice brought in the pasta. "Ma'am, Mr. Evans cooked this himself."
"Him?" Cordelia couldn't believe it.
"Yes. This is the first time in all these years that I've seen Mr. Evans cook. Eat up, Ma'am." Janice
stirred the pasta a bit, making sure it didn’t stick together.
Cordelia was puzzled, but she figured Ronan probably felt guilty for not being able to help her.
She was touched by his attentiveness after noticing that the egg was halved with the yolk removed.
This reminded her of the times when her father would occasionally come home. Cordelia would offer to
cook for him, but he would pat her head and say, "Daddy will cook for you."
When her dad cooked eggs for Cordelia, he would boil them, slice them open, and replace the yolk with
stir-fried minced meat and vegetables before placing them in her noodle bowl.
Ronan didn't do that, but his gesture was enough to move Cordelia.
As she wolfed down the noodles, tears streamed down her face.
She missed her dad.
Although her dad had left her, she felt like he wasn't far away. He was right by her side.
Downstairs, Ronan emailed Emily from HR. "Keep a spot open for an assistant in the Audit
Department."
"Got it."
After sending the email, Ronan went upstairs.
"Done eating?" Ronan asked.
"Mhm, thank you." Cordelia was taken aback by Ronan's gesture.
"Don't get ahead of yourself. Grandpa told me to do it." Ronan replied.
Cordelia fell silent.
The warm feelings in Cordelia's heart hadn't subsided yet. She ate messily while Ronan sat beside her,
and there was still a noodle hanging from her mouth. She couldn't help but hug Ronan's waist.
His body exuded a kind of warmth, a different aura from her father's. Ronan's unique blend of
aloofness and sexiness had her hooked. This was a completely different feeling from her father's.
Cordelia's face was buried in Ronan's body. Her sobbing sounded like a kitten's meow. She wanted to
be alone but couldn't cry loudly. She was filled with grievances, and her crying grew louder.
"Why are you crying again?" Ronan frowned.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't control myself. I'll stop crying; I’ll stop right now.” Cordelia quickly sat up from
Ronan’s lap and wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes.
She didn’t realize that her tears, mucus, and noodles had all smeared onto Ronan’s clothes.
“Cordelia...” Ronan looked down at his clothes, his teeth grinding.
After seeing Ronan’s usually pristine shirt all crumpled and dirty, she felt like she had done something
wrong. She quickly got up from the chair. “Don’t be mad. I can help you clean it.”
She stood in front of Ronan, starting to unbutton his shirt.
Her face was still streaked with tears, and her eyes were glistening, giving her a beauty that was both
poignant and alluring, even though her hair was slightly disheveled. She looked down while
unbuttoning his shirt and muttering. "It's just a little accident. Why are you making a mountain out of a
molehill? You really are...".
Cordelia started at the bottom button and worked her way up.
Looking at Ronan's body from such a close distance made her blush and her ears heat up.
Ronan remembered that the last time he changed in front of her, her face was flushed.
How long had it been, and she still hadn't gotten used to it? Was she really that innocent?
Too bad. She had already given her first time to him.
Ronan found it amusing. He spread his arms, letting Cordelia undress him without hesitation.
"Change me." Ronan stood still and told Cordelia.
"Alright!" Cordelia took the dirty shirt to the bathroom to wash it.
Couldn't he put on his own clothes? All content is © N0velDrama.Org.
Cordelia first filled the basin with water, added some detergent, and let the shirt soak.
"Your husband is still not dressed." Ronan shouted from outside the bathroom.
"Okay, wait a sec. I'm just soaking the shirt." Cordelia was all flustered and a little peeved.
After coming out of the bathroom, Cordelia randomly picked a dark blue shirt from Ronan's closet and
helped him put it on.
Ronan looked good in dark blue. Actually, he looked good in any color. He was like a mannequin in a
shop window.
"Still cold?" After changing his shirt, Cordelia looked up at him.
Ronan was fiddling with his cufflink, saying nonchalantly, "Well, aren't you considerate?"
Cordelia thought to herself. “Considerate? This is clearly just hard work.”
