Chapter 22
Nydia finally managed to put on her dress. She adjusted her hair and pointed to the wound on her neck.
“How should I deal with this?”
Jesse brought the first aid kit over and disinfected Nydia’s wound. Then he wrapped it up with gauze so that the two rows of stitches wouldn’t be visible, in case the two children asked about it.
He saw that Nydia didn’t move.
“Aren’t you leaving yet?”
“If possible, could you give me the electronic version of the plan? I’ll make some modifications and send it to Barclay. This can be done under your supervision. When you can’t supervise me, you can take away all my communication devices, and I won’t go out.”
She looked at Jesse calmly, allowing him to stare at her without flinching.
“I know that you can’t believe anything I say or do now, but if we can use this opportunity to strike a heavy blow to Barclay, then he won’t be able to stand firm in the Evans Group and won’t be as comfortable in the Malone Villa.”
Jesse still didn’t speak.
“As for the reason, the one I mentioned earlier is part of it. The other part is that I suspect that our affair was planned by the two of them.”
At this point, Jesse’s expression finally changed.
“Oh? That’s new.”
From the moment the incident happened until just now, Nydia believed that Jesse was behind it, that he had ruined her life, and thus hated him. Now she suddenly didn’t suspect him anymore?
“I carefully recalled the past events, and when I analyzed the matter without bias, the possibility of Willette and Barclay colluding to plan against me is greater. I will investigate it thoroughly.”
She would investigate everything thoroughly and wouldn’t be confused anymore.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“I didn’t expect that drowning once would actually cure your brain.” Jesse didn’t say anything, but this sentence fully affirmed Nydia’s speculation.
When she first married him, he explained this matter to her, but she didn’t believe it and stubbornly believed that he was the one who planned it.
“Yeah, now I am better. I’m still waiting for you to heal me.” She half-jokingly said, with a playful smile on her face.
Jesse was stunned.
He rarely saw Nydia smile like this, clean and pure without a trace of impurity. Since she woke up from drowning, he seemed to have never seen her cold face, almost always with a gentle expression, and even occasionally a few charming smiles.
“You think about the plan, if you’re willing, just tell me. If you’re not, then forget I mentioned it. I’m going out first.”
She had said everything she needed to say, but if Jesse still didn’t believe her, there was nothing she could do. If she couldn’t get the plan, at most, she would be despised by Willette and Barclay for a while. They wouldn’t let go of such a big fish like her.
As her hand reached for the door handle of the study, Jesse’s voice came from behind.
“Don’t you want to ask me why I can stand up?”
Nydia turned around and said honestly, “I want to ask, but I’m too afraid to.”
The issue with his leg had always been a sensitive topic for him. Jesse remembered the incident when she fought with Mrs. Wollridge and didn’t let him know that others called him a cripple. If she really wanted to provoke him, she could have said it, and it didn’t have much to do with her.
“You can go out now.” Jesse didn’t say anything more.
“Okay, rest early. Good night.”
Back in the bedroom, she took a quick shower. The wound on her neck still hurt a bit. Tomorrow, she would have to wear a higher collar to cover it up.
Lying on the bed, she thought about Jesse’s legs.
