Chapter 31
Jonathan continued, Tve also figured out who this person is–Vivian Smith, one of your colleagues from the news department. She used to be a host on Morning News Express. Do you have any history with her?”
Cynthia showed no signs of surprise on her face. “Yes”
She looked at the figure in the video and smirked. “But there’s someone behind her.”
Jonathan, however, focused on Cynthia’s perfect profile. “You mean she’s being manipulated?”
Cynthia’s gaze suddenly turned more chilling, “Yes, and I know who the manipulator is
Jonathan lowered his voice. “What’s your plan? Do you need my help?”
Cynthia paused for a few seconds, then closed the laptop. She turned to cup Jonathan’s face in her hands. “No need; I can handle it myself. Don’t worry about this, Mr. Bennett‘
Hearing her call him “Mr. Bennett, Jonathan’s brow furrowed slightly, though he kept his expression neutral.
Cynthia leated in, offering her red lips, her voice sultry. “How about tonight in my room?”
Of course, Jonathan couldn’t refuse her invitation. Cynthia felt that he was especially gentle today, seemingly making an effort to soothe her emotions and cheer her up.
She appreciated it; her previously foul mood gradually lifted, and she found herself sinking into a haven of tenderness. But he only kissed her and teased her, without taking things further.
Cynthia, feeling a surge of desire, arched her body, craving for more. “Give it to me…”
“Call me…” he murmured softly in her ear, coaxing her.
“Darling,” she said.
Not that,” Jonathan said.
“Baby” she said.
“That’s not what I want to hear,” he taunted her.
Cynthia’s mind felt hazy, her heart fluttering as if brushed by countless feathers, a delicious itch coursing through her. She had always called him that before, and she had no idea what he wanted to hear at this moment
“Mr. Bennett? Her voice was soft and sultry, like a cat’s gentle purr.
Yet Jonathan still held back from giving her what she was yearning for. “Cynthia, call my name.”
Cynthia slightly opened her eyes, her gaze clouded with desire, captivating and enchanting. Her lips were devilishly enticing, almost red like blood. Her melodious voice carried a distinct air of enchantment. “Jonathan….”
The way she spoke was mesmerizing, as if laced with a soul–sucking allure. At that moment, Jonathan was pushed to the -brink of restraint. Their bodies intertwined, lost in the pleasure.
The next day, Cynthia called Vivian to meet up.
Vivian remained as arrogant as ever. ‘Sorry, the CEO of Fashion Glamour invited me for an interview today. I’m afraid I’m not as free as you‘
Vivian knew well that Cynthia had lost her prime–time hosting position and had been forcibly put on leave by Freddie. Although he called it a vacation, it was more like a freeze–out. Not only had Cynthia lost her prime–time slot, but the migr even lose her position on Midday News Insight.
On the other end of the line, Vivian was reveling in Cynthia’s misfortune. Yet Cynthia’s voice remained calm and graceful “If you’re busy during the day, how about we meet at night? Let’s go to Cloudtop Restaurant. Il treat you”
Cloudtop Restaurant was one of the finest dining establishments in Roncrity. After a few moments of consideration, Vivian agreed.
She knew it was likely to be a trap–Cynthia must have caught wind of what was going on and wanted to confront her. But Vivian wasn’t afraid at all.
For a long time, everyone at RNN thought of Cynthia as a socialite in Roncrity, always dressed in designer clothes and exuding nobility and elegance.
Though they didn’t like to be outshone by her, they feared her powerful family background and dared not offend her.
Little did they know about her humble beginning. Vivian believed that even if Cynthia knew she had been behind those posts, she could do nothing. Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
That evening, Vivian intentionally arrived an hour late. To her surprise, Cynthia was still seated patiently, waiting for her. Cynthia had chosen a prime spot, with a large floor–to–ceiling window on one side showcasing a stunning river view. As she admired the scenery, her elegant and beautiful face drew attention, causing several people to stop and flirt.
Vivian’s eyes flashed with jealousy as she strode over.
“Freddie is really ruthless. You’ve almost secured all the advertising contracts at RNN this year, and just like that, he told you to leave. It’s truly heartbreaking,” she said.
Vivian sat down directly across from Cynthia. “I just interviewed for the editor position at Fashion Glamour, and I happen to need an assistant editor. Why don’t you resign and come work for me at Fashion Glamour? Although it’s just an assistant position, I’ll take care of you. It’s better than being isolated at RNN.”
Vivian’s gaze was filled with mockery and disdain. Having worked at RNN for five years, yet she was outshone by Cynthia,
who had only been there for a year. Now she was finally able to vent her frustrations on Cynthia.
Cynthia looked calm, a faint smile gracing her lips. “Thank you for your kind offer, but I’m not considering a job change at the moment.”
Vivian sneered. “I just want to help you. Instead of waiting to be fired, you might as well resign yourself and keep some dignity. Do you really think Freddie would keep a murderer’s daughter around to tarnish RNN’s reputation? Even if he wants to let you stay, Alison wouldn’t agree.”
Cynthia decided to be straightforward. “Isn’t my current predicament all thanks to you?”
Vivian was prepared for this. She feigned innocence. “Cynthia, you dug your own grave, so don’t blame me. If I had dirt on you, I wouldn’t have waited until now to use it.”
Cynthia played a video on her phone, placing it in front of Vivian. After watching it, Vivian’s face went pale. She hadn’t anticipated that the video of her posting in the internet café would be found
A flicker of panie crossed her face, but she quickly regained her composure and chose to admit it. “Yes, I posted that. So what? I didn’t slander you. Your mother is a murderer, and that’s a fact.
“Vivian, I didn’t come here to settle scores with you. You’re right about one thing: if you had dirt on me, you wouldn’t have waited until now to use it. I just want to know who gave you this information,” said Cynthia.
Although Cynthia already had an answer, she still wanted to confirm it.
75%1
Lilian had paid Vivian a lot and thus Vivian wouldn’t divulge anything. Besides, at this moment, Cynthia was alone and her reputation was in tatters, making Vivian even bolder.
“Nobody gave me anything, Cynthia. I’ve been investigating you all along. You always act so high and mighty, as if you’re better than all of us,” she scoffed.
“At first, I thought you were a genuine socialite from a prestigious family, but it turns out you’re just another loser from a shitty family. Your designer clothes and handbags are nothing but a façade,” she continued.
“Cynthia, you look down on me for finding a sugar daddy, but you’re not better than me. You’re just as hypocritical, just as vain. Who gives you the nerve to look down on me?” Vivian laughed.
Cynthia frowned slightly.
